Sunscreen: If the darker areas are on the face and neck, sun is the most likely cause. You need an excellent sunscreen with SPF of about 50. I suggest looking for zinc or titanium oxide in the ingredients for the best results. If you avoid the sun and wear sunscreen every single day, your skin should gradually even out.

Probably: It may be ok but not sure what your goal is. This will get dark again. There are places that would do that blanching and probably last longer. Is this something that just happened or all your life. Let me know. Thanks

Hi docs, can you tell me if skin lightening creams are safe for acne scars?

Hi docs, can you tell me if skin lightening creams are safe for acne scars?

Not for scars: The hyperpigmentation that follows the acut lesions and lasts for a few weeks or months may respond to a hydroquinone skin lightener, though you may disfigure yourself if you're not careful. It's better to get your disease under control. Topical benzoyl peroxide is your best friend, and your physician may be able to add something if it's not sufficient.

Can't really get RID: Of scars, but you can reduce their noticibility. Use a cream called mederma to reduce the appearance of scars.

What's a good way to cure dark 'scars' on skin?

What's a good way to cure dark 'scars' on skin?

Hydroquinone: One of the most effective treatments for "skin stains", or darkening of the skin after acne, is hydroquinone. It is available without a prescription in 2% strength and should be applied twice daily to the dark spots only, not the surrounding normal skin. Some formulations contain glycolic acid, which help as well. It often takes 6 or more weeks to see any improvement.

I am black and in the summer my skin gets darker than I would like so is there some lightening cream or something that can lighten my skin?

Yes: First of all in order not to get as dark, you should if possible lessen then sun exposure with proper clothing and sunscreens. If there are areas that are way to dark, hydroquinone can be prescribed by your doctor. Good luck from nyc.

How do I prevent a scar from getting darker in the sun? It gets darker a lot faster then the other part of the skin

How do I prevent a scar from getting darker in the sun? It gets darker a lot faster then the other part of the skin

No Sun: It is common for scars to get darker in the sun, especially during the first year of healing. I instruct my patients to avoid direct sun for the first year of healing. Sun avoidance, sun block and protective clothing all help. Bleaching creams and treatments to lighten the scar may not always be effective, so in this case, prevention really is the best medicine.

Hyperpigmentation: Postinflammatory hyperpigmentation (pih) is a frequently encountered problem and represents the sequelae of various cutaneous disorders as well as therapeutic interventions. This acquired excess of pigment can be attributed to various preceding disease processes that affect the skin such as infections, allergic reactions, mechanical injuries, reactions to medications, phototoxic eruptions, trauma.

is skin lightening cream recommened for darker skin?

Medical question?: I suspect that this is more a social-political question given that you are from India rather than a medical question. Any medication used for that purpose can have its adverse consequences.

Can u suggest any cream for skin lightening, with less side effects? My face is darker than my body bcoz of constant exposure to sun.

Can u suggest any cream for skin lightening, with less side effects? My face is darker than my body bcoz of constant exposure to sun.

Sunblock moisturizer: Many people use over-the-counter moisturizers that contain sunscreen. Avoiding exposure to the sun will let skin lighten up. However, one should take extra vitamin d to make up for not getting vitamin d from the sun. Although having tanned skin from sun exposure is not a medical illness, there are a few uncommon hormonal medical conditions that can cause skin darkening.

Severely scratched some mosquito bites years ago which left scars that now look like darker patches of skin. Is there way 2 reduce that discoloration?

Hyperpigmentation: This kind of hyperpigmentation, or increased pigment production, will fade with time. Use sunscreen, to prevent them from staying dark. A dermatologist may have other options. I am also very concerned by the other conditions that you listed. Please, please talk to your parents, a school counselor or a help line ASAP!! There are so many ways and so many people, out there, to help you feel better!
