Can parents tell that their child is pregnant? Because my mom is looking at me funny like she knows something.
Parental Intuition: If you have a pregnancy bump, then she might have a visual reason to be suspicious that you are pregnant. Also, parents have a good sense of who you are and can easily pick up and sense changes you may not even realize that you are exuding. They may not know exactly you are pregnant, but they may pick up on the fact that something is going on with you.. ...Read more

Since 30-40% of infertility is male related, your mom might not have had any fertility problems at all. A more specific knowledge of her history might be helpful in predicting your potential but most likely her history doesn't necessarily mean problems for you. ...Read more

Smoke inside/Outside: Yes, you do have to respect your mother's home as that is your present residence. As you know even 2nd hand smoke environments can be like smoking as well. Appeal to your Mom's desire to have a healthy Grandchild to enjoy by not smoking in the home. If that fails, open a window if possible in a isolated room, or better yet, you get outside and sit or take a walk for exercise. Good luck! ...Read more

Hi docs, do you think it's bad to just lay down all day while pregnant? How often should the mom get some exercise?
Better to exercise: Laying down all day is almost never a good idea for anybody. Blood clots, pneumonia, and muscle deconditioning, for example, can all result from relative immobility. I would recommend at least maintenance of your normal daily activity levels, and up to 30-60 minutes of daily exercise would be fine. Of course, see your OB if you have any problems or concerns. ...Read more
I'm 2 week pregnant, how sensitive is the baby to stress? (I'm just a little stressed and anxious about telling my mom)
Not TOO SENSITIVE...: People under acute stress release hormones that have effects all over the body. To be worried over how best to tell your mother... is NOT going to harm the fetus. That would fall into the category of "The Ups and Downs of everyday life"! Not all "stress" is "bad" and sometimes works to stimulate the nervous system. Prolonged, repeated, severe "stress" is what we'd be concerned about- for both! ...Read more
