How To Know If I Need Stitches Cut Knife
I cut myself with a knife when cutting a bagel. Bleeding pretty heavily... How do I know if I need stitches? How can I stop the bleeding?
Hold pressure: Hold pressure to stop the bleeding. It may take 10-15 minutes of constant pressure. Once the bleeding has stopped, look at the cut. If you can see fat tissue, and/or the skin edges are separated much, it may need stitches. If you have numbness or loss of the ability to move the finger joints, you need to see a hand surgeon. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
I have a vertical cut in my face by knife 12cm long about 25 stitches 10 days ago. I'm using spectragel but worried if it's the best? and how to rub?
SOAP: Don't be too aggressive with rubbing. Cleaning with soap and water should do the trick. The wound should be mostly healed by now unless it was really deep. If the stitches are out as they should be you are on the road to recovery. Keep the wound clean and dry ...Read more
I cut my finger with a knife.. I got stitches and they are out now but my finger still hurts and when I move it the skin separates still... Do I need more stitches?
Probably not: Delayed restitching of a wound following removal of the original stitches is typically not done as it can increase the chances of wound infection. Sounds like you should probably follow up with your primary dr or whoever put the stitches in to make sure the wound is healing appropriately and is not infected. ...Read more
Should i take my stitches out? 16 days ago i had 10 stitches put into my hand after being cut by a razor knife. The area is now swollen, the stitches themselves are cutting into my skin and causing pain, but the cut is still gaping a little. Will it be ok
You : You need to go to the doctor. If the area around your cut is now swollen, you are in pain and wound is gapping - it is likely that you do have an infection. This is especially so if it is warm or has any drainage. Please find a way to see your doctor right away even if it will be a difficulty. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I cut my pinkie finger yesterday at the edge of my finger nail with a knife preparing ribs. I got it to stop bleeding and we put on a butterfly. Not sure if I should have got stitches. ?
If a finger was cut by brass knuckles hitting metal would that be the cause-blunt force-for med. Amputation v/s statement that a machete 2foot knife caused irreparable-unstitchable damage to a middle finger-ring finger was stitched in place. Also nerve-ten
Amputation: Are done when digits are damaged beyond repair. If its crushed or your vessels are stretched/pulled out and amputated from the injury, very few would try to salvage that and simply complete the amputation. I'm not quite sure i understood your question. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Im a self harmer currently getting help. But I had a bad day and cut worse then ever on my arm. How do I know if I need stitches? Not bleeding now.
Difficult: If the edges are not touching each other have it looked at to see if it needs stitches. More importantly, u do not have to live with self harm. U are stuck in a pattern for which there is a solution besides psychiatry. If u honestly have had enough of this, this may require a complete change in your personality. If u you are willing to do whatever it takes, go to a group like AA. If not, consider. ...Read more

Depends on how dirty: Or contaminated the wound is. Closing a bacterially-loaded wound only puts a "lid on a garbage can" and often ends up with deeper tissue infection or worse scarring/healing issues. The "golden period" for fresh wound closure is longer nowadays, and longer for facial or scalp injuries, but recent studies show that most wounds can still be successfully closed up to 19 hours. Sooner is better! ...Read more
