How To Kill Scabies Mites
Unlikely: Scabies mites do not survive more than 2-3 days away from human skin. Items such as bedding, clothing, and towels used by a person with scabies can be decontaminated by machine-washing in hot water and drying using the hot cycle or by dry-cleaning. Items that cannot be washed or dry-cleaned can be decontaminated by removing from any body contact for at least 72 hours. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I have a question about scabies. Regardless of the effect to me/my skin and what i "should" do, will hot/boiling water kill the mites at all?
Easier way than that: You may not have scabies. It would be prudent to see a doctor for a proper diagnosis. There are topical as well oral medications that are far safer than trying to scald yourself with boiling water. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. We have been treated for scabies. Will Lysol kill the mites on hard surfaces? Also, once treated, how long do we need to change our bed linens daily?
Lysol not effective: Scabies is a tough condition to treat since it infects close contacts with varying symptoms and tends to recur from decontamination of untreated people or fomites( infected house hold items). For this reason, simultaneous treatment of all potentially infected personnel is recommended, along with laundering of linen, clothing and towels etc in hot water cycle with each treatment cycle. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

See a dermatologist: How long ago were you treated? Did you apply the cream EVERYWHERE below your ears? Did you wait at least 8 hours before you washed? Did ALL your contacts get treated at the same time? Did you wash or put away your clothing and bedding? The itch from scabies is mostly due to allergy to the mites. After you kill the mites you are still allergic to the dead mites. It often takes several weeks for com ...Read more
Not a good choice: Nonprescription nix (permethrin 1%) is used to treat lice but is not strong enough to cure scabies. Prescription Permethrin 5%(elimite) cream is the most common medication to treat scabies and it works well. Lindane is mentioned in the above answer- it is rarely used now and carries a boxed warning because it has caused seizures and death in some age groups and low weight individuals. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
