Normal levels: An amniotic fluid index of 9.6 is normal so there is not a reason to want to increase it. When the fluid level is low sometimes it can be increased through IV hydration. Most often it can not be increased and should be regarded as a sign of elevated pregnancy risk. ...Read more

Why does c sections increase the risk of amniotic fluid embolism?

Why does c sections increase the risk of amniotic fluid embolism?

2 possibilities: The theoretical reason is that the operative delivery disrupts the tissues and allows amniotic fluid to more easily pass into the woman's blood vessels. But it's not entirely clear if this is a true risk or just an association. Women with suspected amniotic fluid embolism are rushed to c-section. So it's possible it's the other way around, amniotic fluid embolism increases risk of c-section. ...Read more

I had done triple test on 18th week n result shows 810:1risk.Do I need to take amniotic fluid test.please suggest.

No: A 1:810 risk isn't very high. I wouldn't recommend an amniocentesis. I don't know what cut-off is used in China. In the USA, Amnio is frequently recommended if the triple-screen risk is greater than the risk of a 35 year-old women (once chance in 365) The UK frequently uses a cutoff of greater than once chance in 150. ...Read more

I'm 28 weeks and was told I have a generous amount of amniotic fluid. Is this common? I read up on it and it was pretty concerning. Help please

You need an amount: Most with some elevated fluid do not have an issue; if elevated real high you will probobly get referred to a specialist but there is a number called an amniotic fluid index that will guide the severity. Polyhydramnios (light fluid) is considered over about 20 but need more specifics from your dr. Saying generous is non specific and leads you googling, worried and focused on downside.
