Can Olive Leaf Capsules help heal a Stomach Ulcer?

Ulcer may be serious: If you really have an ulcer in your stomach (found by x-ray or endoscopy) please don't self-medicate without a doctor's advice. Ulcers can bleed (sometimes massively), perforate the stomach, obstruct stomach emptying. Sometimes, an ulcer can form in a cancer so to avoid this possibility it is important to make sure the ulcer actually heals. Relief of ulcer symptoms doesn't always mean healing.

Depends: Everyone is different. Time to heal depends on the size of the ulcer and if you are taking anything or doing anything that promotes stomach acid. What are the best remedies for a stomach ulcer? And how long does it take for an ulcer to heal?

Stomach ulcer: The best treatment for stomach ulcer with h. Pylori is triple med. One antibiotic from amoxicillin, tetracycline, Clarithromycin or metronidazole;one from ranitidine bismuth sub salicylate or bismuth subsalicylate; one ppi. Protonix, Nexium (esomeprazole) or Prilosec for10days to 2 weeks. Ulcer without h.Pylori like from nsaids & alcohol needs one ppi for 8 weeks. Prilosec is good. Avoid alcohol. Thanks.

What is usually done when gastritis or a stomach ulcer doesn't heal within 5months on ppi (lanoprazole and omeprazole)?

PUD, Gastritis: First it is important to know that gastric ulcer or gastritis is due to h.Pylori or not? With h. Pylori the treatment is triple and not mono, like you mentioned with one ppi. You have to get egd now to see the status of ulcer/ gastritis. Sucralfate is added with regimen. If still no healing and bleeding episodes, the surgery is next option.

Probably not: H pylori causes ulcers. If not eradicated, it will likely cause more or worsening ulcers. These ulcers can sometimes bleed severely. It's important to not only provide acid suppression (omeprazole) but to also treat the h pylori infection.

Is stomach ulcer painful?

Silent stomach ulcer: Not always. Ulcers may not hurt if they are due to ongoing use of nsaid's that patients take for their "pain killer" property. Sometimes ulcers in the elderly are without any warning symptoms until they bleed, obstruct, perforate. If you think you have an ulcer, don't wait for it to become overtly painful before you seek medical evaluation.
