What is the effect of giving a vasodilator to a person suffering from heart attack or stroke?

What is the effect of giving a vasodilator to a person suffering from heart attack or stroke?

Think this way: Like stepping on a garden hose cuts down the amount of water coming out of the hose, a vasodilator would remove your foot from the hose allowing more water to flow. My dad had a massive heart attack 2 weeks ago and only 20% heart working. He seems stable until they give him narcotics. Will he survive this attack?

Don't know: I am sorry to hear about your dad. It would be distressing to anyone. I don't think anyone can really answer your question - there are two many unknown and uncontrollable variables in such a situation to know the outcome ahead of time, esp remotely. At this time the most important thing you can do for yourself and for him is to be there for him. Keep talking to his doctors. Good luck to your dad! ...Read more

When heart attack is suspected is it permissible to give blood thinners before ruling out aortic dissection?

When heart attack is suspected is it permissible to give blood thinners before ruling out aortic dissection?

Yes: Heart attacks occur much more often than aortic dissections. I would not blame anybody for trying to protect or treat for a heart attack with anticoagulants at least aspirin. In order to rule out dissection you need an angiogram or ct scan which is time comsumming. If fibrinolytics are considered (tpa (alteplase) or similar) i would probably wait to see the ct scan first. Dissect. Gives asymm. Bps, back pain. ...Read more
