Do I have to get some blood tests before doing a laser treatment of leg veins?

It Depends: First, it depends upon which type of laser treatment you are referring to: treatment of superficial spider veins vs endovenous ablation of incompetent superficial veins. For the former, likely not necessary. Before endovenous ablation, depends on a patient's comorbidities, current medications (e.g. Warfarin). I have blood shot veins in the white part of an eye all the time. How do you get rid of them, and is this the start of trouble to come?

Red eyes: Are a non-specific finding which are very common. They may be related to contact lens use, exposure to eye irritants, allergies, dry eyes, sunlight exposure, etc. There is no specific cure for red eyes, other than trying to reduce the exposure to the cause of the redness. Try to avoid using "get the red out" drops, since you can become dependent on them. ...Read more

I have leg varicose veins. What shall I do to get rid of them.?

Leg Varicose Veins: See a vein specialist (vascular surgeon). You truly need to be adequately evaluated by a vein expert to give you the correct answer. The first step is usually a venous reflux ultrasound of your leg veins (to create a MAP of your veins & identify the underlying cause). After this is done, the physian can offer a treatment plan which often involves thermal ablation (evlt or venefit) or phlebectomy. ...Read more

Will intense pulsed light (ipl) technology get rid of my varicose veins? I have a few large reddish-purple varicose veins on the inside of my left leg just lower than my knee. They bulge out and are so ugly. I feel uncomfortable wearing shorts or skirts t

Probably not: I agree with drs. Hansen and d. Ipl might work for very fine spider veins but if your veins are bulging, you are liekly to be disappointed with the results you get from ipl. I would recommend seeing a vein specialist (phlebologist) who can evaluate your legs to make sure that there is no undersying vein trouble. If there isn't, then smaller veins can probably best be treated with sclerotherapy. ...Read more

What: What you are describing sound like large telangectasias or spider veins, or may be true varicosities - it is hard to tell without looking at them. These are in a common location and can be due to reflux in the great saphenous vein or reflux from a perforating vein. In any case, you should probably have a full evaluation from a vascular surgeon or licensed phlebologist before having them treated. If they are a symptom of a larger problem (like the afore-mentioned reflux) they are unlikely to go away with pulsed light or even injection until the causitive problem is treated. In general, injection is probably more effective than pulsed light for larger veins. ...Read more

Possible to have "weak" blood vessels? Sometimes after working out I get a bad bruise on leg which fades to a little knot before slowly going away.

Possible to have "weak" blood vessels? Sometimes after working out I get a bad bruise on leg which fades to a little knot before slowly going away.

Likely Hematoma: You may be working out too hard and rupturing your blood vessels into the exercised muscles. Take it easier, and build up to heavy reps rather than jumping right in. Now, it is possible that your vessels break easily (are "weak"), or your blood is "thin" (you don't clot normally). Avoid aspirin, Ibuprofen and anti-inflammatories (unless you get a hematoma, when they are helpful); try vitamin c. ...Read more

I was hit on my lip by a flying object- a blood vessel broke as a result. How should I treat it in order to get rid of it? Please help!

Cleanse and ice it.: With any trauma that breaks a blood vessel, the principles of care include: let it bleed a bit because blood is sterile and will actually cleanse; pressure with clean or sterile gauze till bleeding stops; if it is a dirty wound, have it checked (watch for infection--pus, redness, inc swelling; ice it to reduce the swelling.
