The best way is to boil an egg, wrap it in cloth and put it over the eye, 10 min on, 10 min off. You can also microwave a sock with rice in it and use it. The potato works well, some patients have mentioned that they have used a hard-boiled egg the same way. This holds heat longer than using a washcloth alone.
