Obstruction: There are many causes to this and can be from weakness of the swallowing muscles to an obstruction like a mass. There is also a very rare pocket called a zenkers diverticulum that can trap food and make it difficult to swallow. Reflux precautions: Most likely you are having something that used to be called "globus hystericus." the classic "lump in the throat feeling" we now know is often due to spasm of the upper throat muscle that is supposed to relax when you swallow.
