How To Get A Wooden Splinter Out Of A Toddlers Foot
My daughter has a splinter in her foot and its so small yhat I can't reach it with twizzers, what is the best way to get it out fast? Help
I use a needle: When these come into the office it is often because parents have not been able to get them out. I rely on magnification/light & the business end of an injection needle to scoop the splinter out. If it is superfical enough, i don't need to numb the area with anesthetic. If the splinter is very small and the kid has no pain while walking, you could leave it alone. Some will work themselves out. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Got metal splinter in foot and white puss is coming out, i can't get it out. Will it draw out itself?
Foreign body: Not necessarily. And the fact that you have pus coming out of the foot shows that there is an infectious process. I would recommend evaluation by a podiatrist asap. If you can't be seen, go to the er. You need someone to look at the foot, get the metal out, place you on antibiotics and make sure your tetanus status is up to date. ...Read more

What is the best way to get a splinter that is deep under the skin in the ball of my foot out. Painful to walk?
Would avoid: "Bathroom surgery". If the credit card trick - scrape against the splinter didn't work - I would not dig for it. The simplest option is to see a podiatrist. P.S. When was your last tetanus shot? Take care. ...Read more

I heard that immature myelin in toddlers can cause mild ankle clonus, is it true? When does the myelin will get mature?
Maturation: The nervous system matures from top down and inside to outside. Ankle clonus is normal in infants until they begin to walk, which the maturation allows. Persistence after 15-18 mo would be a problem. They first gain a wide grasp with fingers like pincers, but fine motor control of the individual fingers will not come in until well into school age. ...Read more
18 mo old has wood splinter in his toe. Leave it be or try to get it out? I don't want it to get infected (obviously!)
Wood you believe?: Because of the relatively small size of the toe at this age, removing the splinter is not as difficult as expected. Having said that, I much prefer that the splinter work it's self out. Less traumatic experience for both patient and parent. Depending on the many possible circumstances, soaking repeatedly tends to make self extraction easier. Many times a mild cellulitis also delivers the splinter. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I sliced my toe on a dirty wooden box and it started bleeding.I cleaned 2 hours later with alcohol. Is there a chance that I could get a bad infection?
Even Odds.: There is always a chance of an infection, no matter what the conditions are. Washing the area with soap and water helps, as does an alcohol bath. You next move is to keep an eye out for the classic signs of cellulitis or infection. Just to remind you, look for redness, swelling, pain and heat. Get to your doctor at the first sign of change. No time to waste. ...Read more
