I use a needle: When these come into the office it is often because parents have not been able to get them out. I rely on magnification/light & the business end of an injection needle to scoop the splinter out. If it is superfical enough, i don't need to numb the area with anesthetic. If the splinter is very small and the kid has no pain while walking, you could leave it alone. Some will work themselves out. ...Read more

Foreign body: Not necessarily. And the fact that you have pus coming out of the foot shows that there is an infectious process. I would recommend evaluation by a podiatrist asap. If you can't be seen, go to the er. You need someone to look at the foot, get the metal out, place you on antibiotics and make sure your tetanus status is up to date. ...Read more

First find it.: At this point, there are only two good options. Either wait to see if time and pressure will force the foreign body out or have it checked by a specialist.
