How To Gain Weight Using Peritol
Have started taking Peritol to gain weight, now I have a great appetite, but I have been getting a bit more drowsy, what can I use to counter this?
What to do if I got periactin (cyproheptadine hydrochloride) 4mg prescribed to me for migraines I'm advised to take one every 8 hours, will this make me gain weight or sleep a lot?
Peritol: This is a blend of botanicals used to ease symptoms of menopause, such as mood changes & sleep & hot flashes. It contains periactin (cyproheptadine hydrochloride) (cyproheptadine) which causes weight gain. U can order it online, but not over the counter. Personally, I would not recommend it without advise from your doctor.
Unlikely: This med is considered relatively safe for breastfeeding mothers. We have no data on it's potential for transfer in breast bilk but we do use it in children. Some cite the need to monitor for sedative effects. Longer acting antihistamines like loratadine or fexofenadine have been studied more with less potential transfer.
Highly variable: It may be a few weeks or months but I have one patient with chronic hives who has been on the same dose for over four years.
Could be several but: It depends why you are taking it...This is an antihistamine which helps itching. But, it can make you sleepy, or even hungry (sometimes given to increase appetite). There are several over the counter anti-histamines (which you to be available only by prescription) which are very helpful --allegra, zyrtec, claritin (loratadine). Read the labels and see if they help you. If not check with the dr. Who prescribed it.
Yes: Both are older antihistamines. They do cause quite a bit of sedation and can cause confusion in the young, elderly and enhance sedative properties of other drugs. Action is no better than 2nd generation non sedating antihistamines, with the exception of some anxiety relieving effects due to sedation.
Hi, will my foetus be harmed if I took peritol also called cyproheptadine before and during the first few weeks of pregnancy?
Have been taking peritol but the drowsiness is affecting me. What vitamins /supplements can I use to counter it's effects for drowsiness?
Stopthe peritol: It is a combined herbal compound- no way of knowing which ingredient causes the issues. Stop for 1 week.
Reactin vs periactin (cyproheptadine hydrochloride): No they are not similar in any way. Reactin is cetrizine sold in canada under name of reactin, it is once a day allergy medicine, it is second genaration allergy med, and is not as sedating as first generation like benadryl, (diphenhydramine) and periactin periactin is a first generation antihistamine, is sedating and has to be taken 3or4 time a day, generic name cycloheptadine.
After ceasing to take periactin, (cyproheptadine hydrochloride) my behaviour has changed, could be withdrawal?
Not withdrawal: Periactin (cyproheptadine hydrochloride) (cyproheptidine) makes you sleepy. Sometimes it makes you hungry but it's not habit-forming or addictive. If you feel more alert, less drowsy, have more energy, and decreased appetite that's just the effects of this classical antihistamine wearing off.
