Should i still work out at the gym even if i'm trying to gain weight?

Yes: It's not hard science, but most people who exercise find their body reaches a comfortable zone, the right weight for them. Being fit seems to program the brain to eat more in keeping with what's right for the body. I'd urge you also to stay fit for the conditioning effect on your muscles alone -- greatly helps the body's metabolic symphony. Good luck. ...Read more

My wife(38} has always been thin, and eat very little she has gained weight & can't lose it, she eats even less now still no change?

Smarter eating: At 38 yo it is possible that the hormonal changes are contributing to the weigh gain. Unfortunately when a person starts to eat much less the body feels like it is in starvation mode and it holds on to the calories and makes it much harder to lose weight. She would be much better off eating 4-5 smaller meals each day instead of a few small ones. Add consistent exercise and it will make a big diffe. ...Read more

Is 160 lbs an acceptable weight for a 22 year old male who is 6 ft 4 in? I can't seem to gain more weight even if I force myself to eat alot.

It's fine: At 6 ft 4 in and 160 lbs, your bmi is 19.5 kg/m2. This is within what is considered normal range for bmi -- 18.5-24.9. Bmi is the ratio of weight in kilograms to height in meters squared and it is a pretty good measure of body fat in most people. Rather than force yourself to eat more than you need you could try resistance training if you want to gain some muscle mass. ...Read more

I'm a thin person, and i eat a normal amount of food. I think my metabolism is in overdrive. Even though i exercise, i can't seem to gain weight.

How do you feel?: Talk about 'metabolism' is mostly subscientific. Are you trying to gain muscle or fat? To gain muscle, you need to do resistance training, supplementing with creatine will probably help, and your genetics determines how fast and how much you gain. You have no reason to want to gain fat. Your body will adjust to your best weight as you pursue the sports you enjoy. Most women prefer a slender man. ...Read more

More calories/weight: I agree with Dr. Kwok, but just eating more protein will not make muscle (Or we could all be Mr./Ms. World) and protein can turn to fat. High protein diets have their own problems. Calories can come from other sources too. But do make sure you are just naturally thin and it is not due to a process that can be corrected by treatment as Dr. Kwok said as well. ...Read more
