How To Flush Flagyl Out Of Your System
WATER & DRUG ELIMIN.: Medications are removed from the body by the kidney or the liver. If a drug is water soluble, normally the kidney is responsible for its elimination. Drinking lots of water will hasten this process. This is not so much the case in drugs that are metabolized by the liver and are fat soluble. Read more
Flagyl: Flagyl (metronidazole) has an elimination half life of about 7-8 hours. This means half of the drug in your body is cleared every 7-8 hours. At this rate, your system should be virtually cleared of the drug after about 48 to 72 hours when about 99% to 99.9% of the original blood concentration would have been eliminated. Read more
Metronidazole: Excretion via urine of 60 to 80% of the dose with fecal excretion of 6% to 15% with unchanged Metronidazole accounting for approximately 20% of the total. Both the parent compound and the metabolites have a half-life of about 8 hours and it should all be gone in 4 to 5 half-lives. Don't drink alcohol until then. Read more

Can flagyl and/or ciprofloxacin in combination with alcohol cause a higher breathalyzer reading and/or cause alcohol to remain in your system longer?
Why do you ask?: Your doctor must have told you not to drink while you're taking flagyl. It's quite dangerous. And while you're on "Cipro", both alcohol and caffeine are best avoided. They won't actually raise the level. If you failed a breathalyzer, you need both a good lawyer and an eagerness to make sure that nothing like this ever happens again. Best wishes. Read more

Metronidazole dose: You took quite a large dose of metronidazole, so the side effects are magnified. Luckily the half-life of the drug is 8 hrs or so, so it should be clearing out of your system in a day or slightly longer... (in 8 hours, half of the drug will be gone, then in 16 hours half of that...so soon it will be gone). You should tell your doctor about it, so they know next time when trying to treat you. Read more
