No: Squat-and-shoulder and other exercises do not stunt growth. Kids will grow to the pre-destined height in america as long as they eat healthily, exercise moderately, grab some sunshine, and get plenty of sleep. To not hurt the body, one should avoid excessive exercise with unusually heavy weights.

Sports Med: Best to see sports med specialist for initial eval. Also pay attention to what specific exercises you are doing that seem to be most problematic. That would be helpful. Best of luck with this. Dr R

Radiculopathy: It may be a radiculopathy from the neck. When a nerve becomes pinched or irritated in the neck it can cause pain or numbness that runs into the arm; I suspect this is what occurred. Don't hesitate to be seen if it does not get better quickly.

Get checked: Sounds as if you injured either a muscle or nerve in the area. An exam with a possible EMG with x-ray studies would help diagnosis what is likely. Good luck.

Refer to answer: Make sure do stretching exercise routinely before squats. Have a balance meals. If problem persist see your pcp to check for other causes.

Orthopedist: If it has not improved at all or has gotten worse you need to see your orthopedist, you may need another mri. If its been getting better it may need more time. A proper exercise regimen, with some stretching and strengthening of the surrounding muscles can help, see a physiatrist.

I've been exercising and doing daily unweighted squats for 7-8 months, a month ago while doing my normal squatts my hip started to hurt. What is wrong?

Tendonitis/bursitis: Tendonitis or bursitis is the likely cause. Try to lay off the exercise for about two weeks. Ice your hip two times a day for a week or until you are pain free. Anti inflammatory meds may help also. Gradually resume your activity. If the discomfort recurs, consider seeing a doc for an evaluation. X-rays or physical therapy may be recommended.

Neck pain: Yes ice it in first 24 hours. If no better w rest and ice please see you primary provider. It may be as simple as needing adjustment, physical therapy or osteopathic manipulation. But if you have damaged or torn a muscle then your provider will be able to diagnose that.

Sounds like U might: Have developed a sprain of the ligament (s), tendonitis or a pulled muscle. See your Doc to be examined and treated. Start with some Aleve (naproxen) or Ibuprofen, and a Muscle relaxer, might be helpful till then. Good Luck.

Low Back Pain: Squats can put a great deal of pressure on your discs if you do not maintain proper form. Any loss of lordosis (sway back) can increase the pressure on the forward portion of the disc causing it to bulge back and potentially be injured. Associated muscle spasm and pain can occur. Good news is most people recover with activity and proper exercise. If you return to squats make sure form is perfect.

Knee cap: This is common if you have some wear and tear/arthritis behind your knee cap (patella). Sometimes it is just inflammation around the cartilage. Some doctors call this runner's knee, or chondromalacia of the patella. In some cases, it is frank arthritis.
