The index is a number that can be in the underweight range, normal range, overweight range, or obese range. Children use different number ranges than adults do, ...Read more

Hi LDL: Hi. Your BP is excellent. Your LDL is high and your HDL is not great. Your triglycerides and calculated VLDL are great (and suggestive of good insulin sensitivity). You're young, and it's hard to recommend lifelong preventive medicine sometimes for some people (not for me or for many others, however). Glucose > 100 - was that fasting? If so, that's abnormal; if not, probably OK. I'd treat LDL. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
All should be OK: If you enter your correct height and weight into any bmi calculator, the results should be correct. The exact meaning of a particular bmi might be open to interpretation as someone who is very muscular and has only 4% body fat might have a higher bmi than a couch potato who has love handles. For most of us, the bmi is a good indicator of appropriate weight versus overweight. ...Read more

My weight is 66kg now. I want to reduce it to 60 kgs over a period of one year from now. Can I do that even my BMI is average? What is the best method
Slow and consistent : Losing 6 kg(~13 lb) over a one year period of time is reasonable. That is only a decrease of about 3500 calories a month or a little over a 100 calories a day. Start by reducing or eliminating any high calorie drinks such as soda, juice or alcohol. Start a consistent walking program, minimize fast food, concentrate on whole foods: lean meat, veggies and fruit. Have a cheat meal every now and then. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Does a 31.9 BMI mean one looks obese or is just medically obese. I'm a stocky build (5'8 and 207 lbs) and want to lose around 25 lbs. Thank you.
Waist circumference: Hi. Muscular people can have a higher BMI and no be obese because muscle is more dense than fat. Check your waist circumference. The farther below 40 inches it is, the less likely you are to suffer obesity related diseases. Of course the fact you take prednisone (are you chronically on it?), the more likely obesity and obesity related diseases. Weight loss is tough on prednisone. Good luck! ...Read more

My BMI is currently 19.96 yet I have an 32 inch belly.. How much weight should I lose to finally get a flat one? Im 161 and 52 kg
Since one can't: Predict how the weight will come off- can't estimate how much weight you need to lose. There's no such thing as natural spot fat loss. You need to lose weight in general ; a certain % will be abdominal fat. Eat healthfully ; be physically active. Calories burned must > calories consumed. To tighten ab's do crunches, reverse crunches, exercise ball crunches, pelvic thrusts, lying leg raises, side. ...Read more
I am male 49yr BMI 27 height 173cm. I lost weight from 84 to 80kg in one yr. My triglyceride went up from 250 to 375. I am on 5gm rosuvas. Pls advise?
Need different med: Triglycerides are not significantly lowered with statin medications like rosuvastatin. Fish oil 2 gm twice daily and Niacin are better for lowering the triglycerides in addition to dietary changes and exercise. Stay away from saturated fats like butter, eat more olive oil/canola oil. Stay away from fried food and consider getting tested for diabetes and hypothyroidism which can raise levels also. ...Read more
