Will a flat spot on a child's head, older than 2 years old, continue to minimize over time as their head grows? We were told our sons head would round
The practice of: Putting babies to sleep on their backs has contributed to more "flat heads." Some have treated this with a helmut, usually at 4-12 months of age, though it is not clear this is more effective than trying to avoid lying on back during the day. As the child and his skull grows, the flattening will improve. It may not be perfectly symmetrical, but is not a cosmetic/social/brain development problem ...Read more
Why on the rigth side of my 4 month old grandson head is flat we turn hem all the time it look like a baby that lay n 1 spot all the time but not hem?
See your Peds doc!: There are some congenital abnormalities that are related to premature closure of the cranial sutures (craniosynostosis). In layman terms- areas of the head that can close early resulting in skull deformities. Some need to be fixed by surgery. There are some that are clearly positional- with modifying sleep habits or using a helmet- these deformities can be solved. Some are completely normal. ...Read more
Depends: This issue has emerged since the 90's when we shifted to back sleeping to avoid SIDS. Many self correct when they begin to sit upright & get out of the position that prolongs it. Some who sleep leaning to one or other side develop a neck muscle issue and need stretching exercises. Rare kids might benefit from a helmet. These treatments are all dependent on a good evaluation done with your doc. ...Read more
Swelling: If you didn't injure the spot where the head is tender (bumped your head) then it is most likely some skin irritation. You could have an allergic response to some shampoo or other hair treatment. As long as you are not an infant, the skull is closed and it is only the scalp you are feeling. There are rare situations when the skull is not closed from birth, but you would have known about that. ...Read more

Baby has flat spot right back side and in front left side. Will her head shape be fine later or will it be same. Worried. Birth time she was fine.?
"back to sleep": When it was established that putting an infant tummy side down increased the risk of SIDS, parents were told to put infants on their backs to sleep. Since an infant's skull is very malleable, it can cause flattening of the back of the skull. Give your baby plenty of tummy time while awake. As her brain grows and her sleep position varies, this flattening may get less apparent with time. ...Read more
4 month old has mild flat spot on back of head. How do I correct this? Will it even out when she sits up more?
Plagiocephaly: It is not uncommon for babies to develop flat spots on their heads early on. Make sure your baby gets "tummy time" every day. That takes the pressure of those areas and also encourages development of neck and torso strength - both of which are vital for being able to sit unsupported. Most times these flat spots go away once the baby spends less time flat on their back. ...Read more

How long does it take for flat spots of head to go away, my daughter is 11months has flat spot on left and back of head, which is noticeable.?
Depends: By the time baby is spending more of her time upright & not laying down, gravity is no longer aggravating the process as much & it has a chance to round out. If the skull is visibly distorted, shifting one ear& part of the face forward as seen from above, a specialized helmet can be worn to help speed the reshaping. Most become un-noticeable with time & as hair thickens. ...Read more

I had a brown flat spot just appear on the head of the penis a couple months ago and now a couple more popped up on the foreskin (im uncircumsised)?
A couple things: These can be a type of mole called melanotic macules or early skin growths of seborrheic keratoses. These are completely benign & tend to happen more in some people versus others. There is a small possibility that these could be early flat warts. Seborrheic keratoses & warts would become more raised over time. Probably not serious: For sure this isn't herpes. I suppose it could be HPV, but a new HPV lesion would be rare at your age of 39. How much??: A statement that the kid has a flat spot doesn't need to send you to a orthotic person for a helmet or anything else.
