How often can an infant be bathed? My two month old currently gets a bath every 2-3 days before bedtime and sleeps better. Can it be done nightly?

Varies with need: The frequency you describe is usually fine.More frequent bathing can extract natural skin oils & lead to more rashes. You might try laying baby on a heating pad for a few minutes on a low heat level to reproduce the relaxing effect of a bath. A few will tolerate a nightly bath without skin issues & many need to by the time they get mobile. Try either way. ...Read more

Doctors can you tell me how often should you bathe an infant with eczema?

Doctors can you tell me how often should you bathe an infant with eczema?

Infrequent or not: There are two schools of thought. One is infrequent bathing to avoid drying out the skin with baths no more than every other day and maybe less often. The other approach is more frequent but brief baths in tepid water to hydrate the skin. The key is frequent use of moisturizering cream. An allergist or dermatologist can help determine which approach is best for your infant. ...Read more

Teething is normal: This is another name for acetaminophen and it is a mild analgesic only. It is OK to use this infrequently. Acetaminophen has its own drawbacks and that can be looked-up online. Try to let your child chew on a cold clean rag or something, it helps. This will come and go and they will get through this, and so will you!! ...Read more

When can I give my baby a bubble bath?

Never! : If by baby you mean a child less than a year, then never! babies don't need bubbles, they don't need perfumes, they don't need detergents, they hardly need " soap" at all! your babies skin will be healthiest with minimal bathing, every other day or so. If it smells good, don't use it! i recommend an organic body bar for my pediatric patients that comes from the middle of nowhere in montana. ...Read more

Should I give my baby a regular bath or a sponge bath to lower his fever?

Should I give my baby a regular bath or a sponge bath to lower his fever?

No: Fever is good, as it helps the body fight off infection. As long as baby looks happy and playful, you don't need to treat the fever at all. If s/he is fussy (and over 2 months), you can give Acetaminophen (tylenol). If it is bathtime and baby looks fine despite a fever, there is no reason s/he can't take a bath -- but no need to give the bath to specifically to lower the fever. ...Read more

If formula fed, the pattern is more likely to be a few daily or at least every other day. If stools are soft & baby feeds well & plays, there is no reason to be concerned. If a poor feeder & not wetting diapers at least every 6 hours, i would have her checked. ...Read more

I changed the formula on my 3month old from enfamil infant to enfamil a.R he passes stools 5 times a day now: yellow thicker w/ mucus is that normal?

Yes: The difference between the two formulas is that the ar contains a rice starch to "thicken" the formula a bit so that the baby doesn't spit up as much. This can increase fiber content in the stool, making the stools a bit thicker. 5 poops a day for a 3 month old is totally normal. Babies poop a lot! ...Read more
