Patience and calm: After a knee replacement, some patients have difficulty with stiffness. It can take one full year to get full range of motion after surgery. Arthroscopy, manipulation, pt, and nsaids are all appropriate. Work with your surgeon determining which may work for you. If you are very frustrated, a second opinion may be helpful. Good luck. ...Read more

All pain medications: — prescription and nonprescription — have risks and potential side effects. Keep in mind that medication isn't the only treatment for arthritis pain. Mild to moderate arthritis pain may be relieved with a combination of self-care measures and lifestyle changes: weight loss, exercise, heat or cold therapy, and physical therapy. It would be useful to FIRST try this combined approach before meds. ...Read more

One leg from knee down swells each day after riding fork lift all day. Has done this for 2 years. Very fit and active. Should i wear a legcompression?

Not a bad idea..: Not sure why you would have leg swelling, but seemingly not painful. Prior injury can damage the vessels/lymphatics and thus cause swelling with prolonged upright position. Did you have any trauma to the leg? Are you on any medication? Norvasc/cardizem/verapamil/lyrica etc.. Are common meds causing leg swelling. Compression stockings can help. Consult doc. Good luck. ...Read more

I need a knee replacement. Do you think II should have both knees done at same time. One hurts worst then the other but I am worried .

It's possible: You have to have the talk with your surgeon. Most if the time they recommend one at a time. When you have both done at the same time the recovery is more difficult but then it's over. If you are in very good physical shape, healthy, low surgical risk and are absolutely sure you want to do both then go for it. My mother did at your age so she wouldn't miss a summer of golf! ...Read more

How long does knee pain last after arthroscopic sugery i just had one done 8 weeks ago for a torn meniscus?

How long does knee pain last after arthroscopic sugery i just had one done 8 weeks ago for a torn meniscus?

Depends on DJD: Most good quality studies show that short and long term recovery from knee arthroscopy is directly related to the amount of arthritis seen at surgery. Knees with minimal arthritis recover from simple partial menisectomy in 3-4 weeks, those with more advanced arthritis can take up to 8-12 weeks. If longer than 12 weeks, the problem may be the arthritis and not the meniscal tear. ...Read more
