Not often worrisome: A hydrocele is a collection of fluid around the testicle. Often the reason for this is unclear, but infection, trauma, tumors, or other causes are possible, so medical evaluation is important. It requires treatment when large enough to preclude palpating of the testicle or so large as to be uncomfortable. Drainage without surgery rarely works as the fluid recollects. The operation is outpatient. ...Read more

Likely anxiety: There should be no structural or functional reason or lack of ejaculation. Most of ejaculate comes from prostate gland, seminal vesicles & pre-cum from Cowper's gland. Testicles provide sperm for ejaculate. You presumably have another testis on the other side to hydrocele if you thought vas on hydrocele side had been damaged by surgery. Vas damage is 99.9% unlikely & does not affect ejaculation. ...Read more

If during hydrocele surgery will occur damage of spermatic cord can repair this "mistake" (this complication) later or not?
Not likely: The likelihood of damage to the spermatic cord during surgical repair of hydrocele is low. In fact the risk from not repairing the abdominal wall defect, such as hernia with either bowel or omentum that becomes strangulated is a much more serious concern. If the surgery is done while the child is young and by a good pediatric surgeon, there should be an extremely low risk. Ask for a referral. ...Read more

My 15 month old was just diagnosed with a hydrocele. Is there still a chance it will resolve without surgery? It seems to be getting smaller.
Probably not: Hydroceles in young babies often do not communicate with the abdominal cavity, & they usually resolve in the first few months of life. Hydroceles found after the first birthday connote communication with the abdominal cavity & usually do no resolve spontaneously. Surgery is usually needed. That said, one can watch a hydrocele for quite some time seeing what will happen without bad consequence. ...Read more

No: Sadly not usually. You can drain a hydrocele with a needle in the office but the recurrence rate is very high. In surgery the hydrocele "sac" where the fluid sits is surgically removed so it is very rare for the fluid to return after surgery. Best of luck.
