How soon after having a caesarian section can you get a tubal ligation?

How soon after having a caesarian section can you get a tubal ligation?

During the C-section: A tubal ligation is usually performed during the c-section after the baby is delivered. This is to prevent another surgery in the future and any undesired pregnancy that could occur during the recovery period after the c-section. How likely is it that a tubal ligation fails while performed during a c section?

Depends..: If you asking about the overall risk of pregnancy after btl it is 1:300. If you are referring to the inability to perform btl during a c-section that depends on pelvic scarring and adhesions as well as on surgical expertise. It should be <1-2% though. ...Read more

Probably normal: This is probably a normal variation. A tubal ligation is the best type of contraception available. and very rarely allows for pregnancy. The most likely cause of your symptoms is a fluctuation in your hormone levels causing a shift in your menstrual cycle. There are many ways this can happen, but usually the cycle resumes on its own. ...Read more

Hormonal fluctuation: can throw off your schedule, and that can be related to stress or infection, or thyroid dysfunction. Some women your age will start to see some irregularity as menopause approaches. It is unlikely that you are pregnant after your tubal, but it does happen, and a test would reassure you about that. Give it a few months and then discuss with your doctor if still a problem. ...Read more

I had a tubal ligation in Oct of 2013 when I had my 3rd child via c section. Since then my periods have been completely irregular. Help!!!

Not due to tubal : I don't believe your tubal ligation has much to due with your irregular menses at this point, nothing to really be worried about as long as it was done correctly. Your gyenacologist could put you on some hormone therapy to regulate your nenses so that they are more predictable! ...Read more

I had a tubal ligation right after my 2nd c-section in january of 2009 do I have a better chance concieving through a reversal or through ivf. I'm 30y?

I had a tubal ligation right after my 2nd c-section in january of 2009 do I have a better chance concieving through a reversal or through ivf. I'm 30y?

IVF short term: In general as long as your hormones look good, at a good ivf office you should have a pregnancy rate of 60-70% per embryo. So the highest success rate short term is ivf. If your doctor is successful is reversing the tubal procedure, you can have as high as a 15-20% natural pregnancy rate per month until the tubes potentially close up. Even if the tubes are open, there is no guarantee of pregnancy. ...Read more

Very common: Almost everyone gains weight after quitting smoking, usually in the range of 5-10 pounds, but sometimes more, and occasionally much more. If you are truly limiting your calories and are exercising, i don't know why it is continuing, and you should see your doctor to rule out any metabolic problem, like thyroid disease or many others. Congrats on quitting smoking! don't backslide over weight! ...Read more

Is it safe to have sex 3 weeks after c-section and tubal ligation?

Is it safe to have sex 3 weeks after c-section and tubal ligation?

Questionable: It is "safe" in the sense that you probably wont become pregnant from the experience:-) Could cause some pain and possibly an ascending infection in the uterus. Sex happens frequently but the infection risk is rare. However, I do think the risk benefit ratio falls in favor of abstinence till after 4 weeks minimum and 6 weeks preferably. ...Read more

See your surgeon: A "severely distended" belly after a c/section deserves an evaluation. If the incision is red or draining, or you have a fever, vomiting or severe pain, you should go to the ER ASAP. If you are feeling well except for this, you need to call or see your surgeon in person. Most surgeons would rather see you in person. If there is a problem, they can deal with it early. Best wishes! ...Read more
