Alcohol is available in many beverages, from beer and wine to the more potent distilled spirits, such as gin, rye, and whiskey. There appear to be at least small health benefits of small amounts of alcohol use (fewer than five drinks per week), especially of red wine Excessive alcohol use can lead to addiction and severe social and physical complications. Excess long term alcohol use is the most common cause of cirrhosis of the ...Read more
That depends: On the antibiotic and how much you drank.
Depends on…: The antibiotic: some like Flagyl (metronidazole) can interact with alcohol & cause marked nausea & vomiting. Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) alone can cause nausea/vomiting even without alcohol. No drug interactions r listed for bactrim, (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) amoxicillin, & alcohol, but it's never a good idea to mix alcohol with meds. Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) & alcohol both affect the liver. Best to wait until you've finished antibiotics before drinking.See 1 more doctor answer
When checking this: On a drug interaction checker, it indicated that there can be minor, clinically insignificant but unspecified interactions. Should be fine but don't drink to excess.
Can I drink alcohol while taking prednisone 20MG? I just got put on it today because I had an allergic reaction to an antibiotic I was taking..
Yes: I see no drug interaction issue here.
Can I drink alcohol while taking Nitrofurantoin 100mg for a UTI? I wanna drink this weekend and my last day to take this antibiotic is Saturday.
No contraindication: However, since alcohol use may be associated with sexual disinhibition, and "athletic" or vigorous sexual activity is associated with UTI's in women, would exercise caution on that front. Alcohol does reduce our body's immune response to infections, and does have some interactions with some antibiotics (taking it with Flagyl can be dangerous), there is no problem with nitrofurantoin.
I have bacterial pink eye. I just started my antibiotic eye drops yesterday. It's called tobramycin ophthalmic. Can I drink alcohol while on the eye d?
Ask pharmacist.: Antibiotics will not treat a viral infection so it may be possible to stop the antibiotics and eat, drink and be merry. However, if you are taking an antibiotic it would be necessary to know specifically which one in order to answer your question. Each of them is different. Your pharmacist should know.
Don't understand?: If you are on medication that your doctor believes you need to take daily, you should not stop them. The person you need to ask this question is whoever is prescribing your medication. One drink is not going to have much effect, but larger amounts are potentially harmful. If alcohol is so important that you would stop a medicine you need, you have an alcohol problem, and should talk to your md.
4-6 days; be careful: Alcohol and Acetaminophen together can cause liver damage and alcohol and butalbital can cause dangerous sedation. Tylenol (acetaminophen) stays in your system for 6-12 hours, but butalbital can take 4-6 days to be eliminated, so I would recommend waiting at least that long before drinking alcohol.
Yes: You have hemorrhoids. You want to consume alcohol. There is no contraindication. Try to minimize your hemorrhoids by not sitting on toilet for prolonged periods. Remember to drink in moderation. Alcohol can cause dehydration which can make your stool hard and exacerbate a hemorrhoid so stay hydrated.See 1 more doctor answer
Still on Antibiotic?: While there is no general prohibition against using alcohol when dealing with acute diverticulitis, common sense would suggest that it may not be the best idea. Furthermore, many antibiotics can be affected by alcohol intake, so I would be especially cautious if you are still on antibiotics.See 2 more doctor answers
Not a good idea: Nyquil itself contains about 20% alcohol, but more importantly excessive alcohol is bad for the immune system, and itself makes many cold symptoms (particularly nasal stuffiness) worse. Adding additional alcohol to nyquil increases the chance of intoxication, which aside from being illegal at your age, is dangerous, particularly behind the wheel of a car or anything similar.See 1 more doctor answer
