I have a lower back pain due to working long hours at my desk. What should I do?

I have a lower back pain due to working long hours at my desk. What should I do?

Low back pain: The best treatment are things you can do away from your desk. Your core muscles are weak from sitting posture. Walking, crunches, pool time.. You get the idea . I don't recommend belts or straps they just take away even more muscle tone. The only item i would recommend at your desk would be standing, stretching and trading chair for balance ball. Trade off/on for chair when starting. ...Read more

Why do my feet go numb when I work out on the elliptical for 15 minutes. I'm usually going about 3mph. Should I be worried?

Metatarsal syndrome?: Using elliptical machines forces the flexion/extension of the ankles many time during your exercise...I suspect you may have a problem with metatarsal syndrome (equivalent of wrist carpal tunnel). Since you did not say u have other problems/concern, i don't think this is serious. But i would check with your doc/podiatrist to have an evaluation to better diagnose your condition... Good luck. ...Read more

Why do my feet go numb when I work out on the elliptical for 15 minutes. I'm usually going about 3mph. Should I be worried?

Nerve compression: The most common reason for numbness during activity is nerve compression. It could be as simple as tight or mismatched shoes (which just means you need to get better shoes), or it could be active swelling for medical reasons that cause nerve compression. It could also be tarsal tunnel, which would affect mostly the bottom of the foot. ...Read more

I have scoliosis. Now I have a big pain at my back maibe because i work at my desk 9h/day seeting of the chair. What can I do? Can be worse then pain?

Sitting back pain: Scoliosis is only associated with back pain about 16% of the time, but poor posture hurts 85%! i agree that the sitting is the likely cause of your pain. A pmr doctor or physical therapist can assess your posture relative to the desk, and an x ray of your spine will give information on the type of scoliosis you have and act as a marker to assess changes over time. This can be helped! ...Read more

Just wondering if I can go back to work at my desk job after a week after appendectomy?

Usually Yes: Everyone has a different tolerance for pain and recovery. Usually for my patients that undergo laparoscopic appendectomy, they can return to work as soon as they can perform their job safely and up to the expectations of their employer. Usually this is between 3-14 days. My only restriction is no heavy lifting over 15lbs for 2 weeks. Speak with your surgeon to see if he/she has any restrictions. ...Read more
