16mth old male has platelet count of 509. Are there any serious issues this could be related to? All other counts were normal except MCH was 22.4.

Pediatric hemedoc: follow up may be needed if the mild increased platelets is persistent, unexplained or symptomatic. The MCH is near lower limit of normal, about 23-24 in this age group. A word of caution, lab values are never complete, unchanging or diagnostic without the context of the whole, so see a pediatrician or a specialist for a steady analysis and discovery of issues. Depends how: Low and if you have any other abnormalities in your blood work. Low platelets can cause delay in blood clotting. If you are not having any problems with bleeding, i would not worry too much. Follow your doctor's advice and have re-test first before you get too worried. Lab errors do occur. I had a serious jaundice 13 years back. After that all normal except that my platelet count is always low with slightly enlarged spleen. What to do?

But if you were having problems, the question would be - is your spleen enlarged because it's harboring platelets or for another reason.
