How Regularly Can You Use Permethrin Cream Without Experiencing Side Effects
Yes, but...: This is the cream used to treat scabies. Typically in adults and older children scabies do not affect head/face/scalp. This is not true in young children and babies for some reason. So typically we tell older patients to use the cream from neck down. However, in children and if symptoms on scalp in adult (this would be rare), can safely use on scalp ...Read more

What happens to me if I apply a second treatment of permethrin cream before the 2 weeks recommend? I did one last night and want another now! Help me
Not needed: Assuming your treatment was for scabies, even though a second treatment this soon would not be harmful, it also would be of little value. Treatment with Permethrin does not immediately cure the itch of scabies. It usually takes at least two weeks for the itching to subside. Meanwhile treatments for the itching such as antihistamines or anti-itch lotions such as sarna lotion should help. ...Read more

Usually once: Scabies is caused by a mite that burrows into the skin and lays eggs. The eggs take a few days to hatch. Generally one application of Permethrin cream kills the mites and eggs but occasionally a second application a week later can be used to kill any mites that hatch from eggs that survive the first treatment. You should not use more than 2 applications. ...Read more

Depends: Even if all the scabies mites are killed by the premethrin, itching can persist for several weeks. Persistent itching, especially if there are big bumps, sort of like mosquito bites, can be treated with a topical cortisone (steroid) cream. Yep: Yeah, she's right. Usually one treatment with that med is all that's needed for the vast majority of conditions. The symptoms that may persist after treatment are because there is often a local reaction present under the skin that takes weeks for the body to resolve. ...Read more

Applied permethrin cream 5% for scabies last night, to every inch of my body. On for 12 hrs. I still woke up with new bites. When will new bites stop?
It can take 3 weeks: Scabies symptoms aren't from "bites", but from the body's allergic reaction to scabies mites and their products (eggs, droppings, etc). Permethrin kills mites immediately, but it takes time for the immune system to clear the dead mites and the junk they left behind. Red bumps and itching can continue up to 3 weeks, and may even get worse for a while. Hang in there, it will clear up with time. ...Read more
