How Quickly Should 3 Day Antibiotics Work For Uti
Verify UTI diagnosis: Most important thing is to verify that you have been truly having recurrent utis as there are other urinary conditions that can mimic the same symptoms. Though a urinalysis can be suggestive, often misleading. Urine culture required to verify. If DX of recurrent UTI is correct, recommend urological evaluation to determine cause. Daily low-dose antibiotic for 6-12 weeks a common treatment option.See 1 more doctor answer
A urinary tract infection, also known as an UTI, may involve the kidney, ureter, bladder, or urethra. A common cause is an intestinal bacteria, E. coli. Common symptoms include a frequent urge to urinate, and pain or burning when urinating. Antibiotics are typically ...Read more
I took a UTI antibiotic called sulfamethoxazole/tmp for 3 days (6 pills) I am on my 8th day of starting my b/c, will this cause my b/c to not work?
No: It should not. Hope your UTI is better:)
For 4 months I have uti and im taking lots of antibiotics all doesn't work. I had a bit if yellow discharge and I pee more than 10x a day. What can I do?
Probably not a UTI: There are many causes of urinary pain and frequent urination. A common cause is bacterial infection (UTI) but when antibiotics do not improve symptoms, you either have an antibiotic-resistant infection (would be shown on urine culture) or the cause is simply not a bacteria. It's too involved to describe here, but try looking up "Bladder pain syndrome, " to see if it describes what you are feeling
Will this antibiotic work for my UTI even though I was already on it once and it didn't work? I am 9 weeks pregnant and I have a uti. I was put on nitrofurantoin mono/mac 100mg twice a day for 7 days. I felt better for a few days, but the infection return
Be: Be confident that your doctor is doing the right thing. The urine culture that was done shows which antibiotics will work and which will not against the bacteria that is causing the infection. If you were put on Nitrofurantoin again then I am sure the culture showed that the bacteria was sensitive to it. Recurrent uti's are very common in pregnancy, and the fact that you took the antibiotic before does not mean it will not work this time. If you need more reassurance or explanation don't hesitate to contact your doctor. Take care.
My child has had UTI for 10 month she been on three kinds of antibiotics had test done to see what caused the UTI cant find anything what wrong help!!
Pediatric UTI: This sounds like a job for a pediatric urologist. There are many possibilities, and you have not provided sufficient info for a diagnosis to be made. A 4 yr old needs to be fully evaluated, not only for possible causes, including anatomic defects, but also for the possibility of abuse. See a good pediatrician and get a recommendation.See 2 more doctor answers
Usually within a day: If symptoms caused by a UTI such as burning or a cloudy or bloody appearance don't begin to improve by 2 or 3 days, there is a good chance that the antibiotic isn't working or the symptoms are do to something other than infection.
72+ hours: Usually you shold saee releif in 48-72 hours
See below: The most important course of action is make sure the diagnosis of UTI is correct by obtaining both a urinalysis and urine culture (C/S). The latter will verify if a UTI is still present, identify the specific bacteria, and identify which antibiotics it is sensitive to. There are other conditions which can mimic a UTI. If recurrent UTI, further testing and long-term antibiotics may be necessary.
48 hrs: 48 hrs if taken oral.Get a more detailed answer ›
Different causes: Sometimes there are different bacteria that respond to different treatments. Sometimes there is an underlying structural cause that has to be corrected to deal with the infection caused.
I have been on antibiotic for 1 1/2 days for severe uti. How long does it take for antibiotics to work?
Within a day: Great question. Since uti's are painful, effective therapy can alleviate this symptom within a day. However, other symptoms, depending on the severity of infection, may take up to a week (fever, malaise) or so to abate (eg.Flank pain). If symptoms smolder, inform your prescriber immedately- antibiotics may need to be adjusted. Hopefully, a urine culture was intially done to guide antibiotic choice.See 3 more doctor answers
Just finished a course of antibiotics for a UTI but just done another test at work n pH, leu and pro is showin up?
I have had UTI inferctions of and on for the last three months. No antibiotic has helped. Now I am on cefdinir. Is that the right one?
Well...: More than three UTI in a year in a woman calls for a full urological evaluation, as you might have anatomical problems that perpetuate the problem...
Many antibiotics.: Optimal 1st antibiotic choice for UTIs are trimethoprim-sulfa (Bactrim), Cipro (ciprofloxacin) & Macrodantin. Amoxicillin, Augmentin & sulfonamides + sometimes tetracyclines (like Docycycline) used 2B first choice but more & more UTIs are resistant to them hence the change. Also reason why we recommend urine cultures co-incident with urinalysis to insure bacteria causing UTI are sensitive to prescribed medicationSee 1 more doctor answer
I have a uti. Doc said I am resistant to a number of antibiotics. Prescribed the same one I am on for longer, even tho resistant. Will that work?
Probably not: Sometimes an antimicrobial will work even if stardard sensitivities say resistant because of higher levels in the urine. But doesn't sound like it here. Do you know what the bug is and what it is sensitive to?
A urinary tract infection (often called UTI) is most commonly caused by bacteria and usually refers to an infection in the bladder. Not all bacteria that grows from the urine represents an infection, so the need for antibiotics is determined by your ...Read more
