I've been on Accutane now for 2 months and have seen minimal improvement. When will this medication actually work?
Most within 12 weeks: Acne can flare the first few months on isotretinoin. Most patients start to see improvement within 12 weeks. However, there are always a few patients who require a longer amount of time to see improvement. Your dermatologist will be adjusting your dose as the months progress. ...Read more
I'm just now starting isotretinoin (accutane) and I was just curious as to when it normally starts to work for people?
Does initial breakout is permanent? I'm in a 13 day with 10 mg accutane and I had initial breakout. Can I know when it last? Does accutane really work?

Can u take creatine while in accutane? I m currently on accutane since the past week. I work out daily and would like to know if creatine can be taken
Well: However, it is unpleasant, and you must be sure not to become pregnant. Your skin will be dry, irritated, and may itch or burn. For severe acne, this is part of the informed consent you will give. After your course of treatment, you should be clear for at least several months. Most folks think it is worth it. Good luck. ...Read more
Probably not: Accutane make you very sensitive to the sun and you can sunburn very easily (anytiime but that makes summer really bad). I assume Accutane works by cleaning out everything under the skin first but why was there stuff under the skin in the 1st place? Not washing correct?
No: A variant on the molecule supposedly with fewer side effects / better safety profile was under development a few years ago but was abandoned. For deep cystic acne, Isotretinoin remains by far the best choice, though antibiotics and topical retinoic acid preparations work well for milder cases. ...Read more

II have smoked marijuana 3 times while on accutane. I started my 2nd month of accutane (60mg) today. Will the weed affect the way the accutane works?
No interaction but..:
Marijuana can interact with many medicines, though most of the interactions are mild consisting of "may increase side effects such as drowsiness and dizziness."
There is no known interaction with accutane and it will not affect how it works.
HOWEVER, I consider accutane a dangerous drug that should be avoided if possible. There are safer alternatives. See http://tinyurl. Com/ha76qds ...Read more
Better options: It's unwise to self-medicate with isotretinoin / accutane. There are precautions, even if pregnancy is not a possibility, and it's unpleasant. I see you're a male. Topical benzoyl peroxide as tolerated will probably be less unpleasant overall and if this does not clear you, adding a short course of a systemic antibiotic such as tetracycline probably will. Manage it till it self-cures with age. ...Read more
Accutane and acne: Accutane is basically a very strong and potent form of vitamin a. It reduces oil production by the sebum glands in the skin. The pores do not get clogged up with sticky sebum and dead skin cells and a pimple cannot form. It works well but it is a hard drug to take because of side effects. It can also cause birth defects if taken when a woman is pregnant. It's used when other txs have failed. ...Read more

My son just started taking Accutane for acne. Is it safe? Will it work? Tried other things nothing worked.
This: This response is coming from a psychiatrist. Why is a psychiatrist answering your question? Because you asked about the safety of Accutane and there can sometimes be psychiatric side effects. I will leave it to one of the dermatologists to address the non-behavioral health aspects of this medication. I normally don’t recommend that any of my patients who have suffered from a major depression, take accutane. If a patient with a history of depression takes Accutane they should be monitored for any worsening of symptoms. There have been some incidences of depression, suicide thoughts and attempts, aggression, mood swings, personality changes, paranoia and loss of touch of reality while on accutane. There have also been some completed suicides on accutane. For this reason, the dermatologist will usually inquire at each visit if you son has any possible symptoms of depression to include: feeling sad or angry, feeling powerless or hopeless, withdrawing from friends, problems with sleep or appetite or suicidal thoughts. What medication is the best choice is made individually with the patient, the parent and the doctor. Good luck. ...Read more
Due to severe ibs/fibromyalgia, I am unable to work. Took Accutane in teens. Could it be the cause? Am I a candidate for disabiliy? Other resources?
Finished Accutane 3 weeks ago. Going south usa. How can I stop the sun making acne Scats worse. Won't sunscreen cause acne? And does 4% glyco acid work
No and yes:
First you are very sensitive to UV exposure now and should be using a daily physical block your doctor should be able to recommend one. They are non comedogenic so a quality produce will not cause acne.
Second a 4% glycolic wash would be a nice daily or every few days wash and exfoliator but again speak to your doctor you are also very sensitive to peels and acids for at least the next 6 months ...Read more
