How Quick Does Stage 3 Ovarian Cancer Spread If Left Untreated
Cancer is a group of diseases that is characterized by uncontrolled cell growth leading to invasion of surrounding tissues that spread to other parts of the body. Cancer can begin anywhere in the body and is usually related to one or more genetic mutations that allow normal cells to become malignant by interfering with internal cellular control mechanisms, such as programmed cell death or by preventing ...Read more
Stages I - IV.: Stage I ovarian cancer means the cancer is only located in the ovaries. Stage ii is when the cancer has spread to other organs in the pelvis, such as the uterus. Stage iii occurs when the cancer spreads beyond the pelvis to other abdominal organs and lymph nodes. Stage iv, the most advanced stage, means the cancer has spread (metastasized) to distant organs like the lungs or liver. ...Read more
Yes, major differenc: Stage 2 ovarian cancer (spread limited to pelvic area only has a much better cure rate (>50%) than with stage-3 Ovarian cancer which means it has spread into the belly). Stage 3 is the most common stage of presentation; this means high mortality rate, yet 25% to 30% of such women can expect to be cured with the proper use of modern chemotherapy combined with debulking surgery. ...Read more
Total hys. In 2005 because of stage 3 ovarian cancer. Now had 2 abnormal paps and scheduled for another in 2 weeks. Also 2 scopes showed nothing.
Why is stage 3 ovarian cancer often considered incurable (though treated with intent to cure)? In this case, with secondary tumour in bowel
Cure still possible: Stage 3 ovarian cancer has a high risk of mortality but cure is still a possibility in about 30% of the patients treated be a competent onciologist. Did she have surgical removal of her tumors in the belly and those in the intestine? Surgical debulking is an important component of treatment and is complementary to chemotherapy killing off small tumors. ...Read more
Hard to know: Most ovarian cancers are already stage 3 or 4 when they are diagnosed so we really don't know how long it took them to get there. In retrospect, many women have had symptoms for many months before their diagnosis. There may also be an asymptomatic stage that could last for months or even years before the symptoms begin. ...Read more

Is hCG diet safe for me? I'm a case if ovarian cancer stage 3, had total hysterectomy and chemo in 2007.I've read that it can trigger another cancer.
Don't worry: This is an extreme calorie restricted diet -- which is the only reason it works -- and you also spend a chuck of money for a placebo "hcg". I am glad you seems to have had a favorable outcome with your tumor and hope you will improve the quality of your survival by taking an interest in real physical fitness, not fad diets. You deserve the best -- give yourself this gift. ...Read more
Is it safe to use the hCG diet? I am a case of ovarian cancer stage 3, had total hysterectomy and 6 cycles chemo last 2007.I'm 5 feet tall, 67 kilos.
Yes: I will probably take heat for this but I am one of those doctors that believes in the HCG diet. I've not seen any patient have trouble or deleterious health effects from this weight loss. If followed, weight loss does occur. Most gain their weight back afterwards because they don't follow a maintenance plan for the 3 weeks after finishing hcg. If you do, the weight stays off. ...Read more
???: Why? Even patients with advanced cancer can be treated successfully for control of symptoms and sometimes do well for over a year. Progressive ovarian cancer can be quite unpleasant so I'm not sure why it would be left untreated. Of course, if the patient has already received multiple chemos, it would be a different situation. To answer your?, it depends but probably not for long. ...Read more

I have got a pain that seems to be coming from my left ovary. Am I so worried. Could it be ovarian cancer?
It is highly unlikely that you can localize the pain to an ovary. Early ovarian cancer is usually not associated with pain. It you have concerns consult your doctor to see if an ultrasound examination is warranted. Visit this site for info: http://www. Mayoclinic. Can be helped: A radical resection of the omentum essentially removing the entire cake of tumor is performed eliminating vasucular permeability factor that leads to ascites. All peritoneal nodules are resected to smaller than 1 cm. And patient then placed on chemotherapy. Occassionally hyperthermic peritoneal chemotherapy lavage employed. Often patients may be cured if not helped in terms of survival. ...Read more

Is having to urinate a minimum of every three hours considered frequent urination? I don't recal what has been normal for me. Ovarian cancer???
Yes it may be: Frequent urination means having to run to the bathroom even when your bladder is not full of urine. It is usually a combination of frequent urination (for small quantities) and urge to rush to the bath room which implies bladder infection. This can be verified with a urine test (called Urinalysis/UA). Ovarian cancer is less likely unless you have swelling of your abdomen? ...Read more
Could the transvaginal ultrasound not catch ovarian cancer on time before it spreads to other organs?
Possibly: The transvaginal ultrasound (u/s) is arguably the best screening tool for ovarian cancer (oca) but certainly the quality of the u/s and the state of the oca when it was discovered can affect the value of the early diagnosis. A recent study comparing the survival of persons whose oca was detected by u/s to those diagnosed by other means showed significant increased survival in the u/s group. ...Read more
Depends on surgery: Ovarian cancer has a high incidence of metastasis. When it occurs surgical debuling is the procedure of choice. The omentum becomes involved due to presence of TGF-B producing caking and leading to ascites followed by diaphragm and small bowel seeding. Best results with total omentectomy and debulking to no lesion left that is larger than 1 cm or smaller. Chemo then can be effective. ...Read more
