Relax: Please relax! Most women do fine with endometrial biopsy. The doctor inserts a very thin 3mm straw like pipe into your uterus to obtain some tissue. It is true that you might have pain and discomfort and cramps, but if you relax and breathe the actual insertion part takes only a minute or two. Take 800mg ibuprofen and 1000mg acetaminophen an hour before procedure if not allergic to them. ...Read more

How is endometrial biopsy done? Can this procedure confirm presence of abnormal cells or a surgery/operation is required to check for abnormal cells?
Uterine sample: Usually an endometrial biopsy is completed in the office by inserting a small catheter/tube through your cervix and into the uterus. My doctor attempted to do an endometrial biopsy and had to stop because it was very painful. What are the alternative options I have to to get this d?
Sonogram or sedation: A pelvic sonogram performed by a certified skilled sonographer or a saline sonohysterogram may help decide if an endometrial sampling is really necessary. If your endometrium is "thickened", an office procedure under sedation or paracervical anesthesia is an "alternative option"; otherwise you may need a dilatation of your cervix in an OR or ambulatory surgical unit served by an anesthesiologist ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
