I think I overdosed on mineral oil; is it harmful?

See below:: Symptoms are due to mineral oil's laxative action and may include: abdominal pain; dehydration (from severe diarrhea);diarrhea;nausea & vomiting. How well you do depends on the amount of poison swallowed and how quickly treatment is received. The faster you get medical help, the better the chance for recovery. Mineral oil is relatively nontoxic, and recovery is likely.

Baby oil is purified mineral oil? Can it be used as a laxative?

Baby oil is purified mineral oil? Can it be used as a laxative?

Not a great idea: At 16 years of age you should not be using laxatives at all without a physician supervision. I doubt that your physician would advise the use of any oil based laxatives. I think you would do well with 8-10 glasses of water daily, bran, cereals, fresh fruits and vegetables.

Is mineral oil any good anymore for baby care?

Is mineral oil any good anymore for baby care?

No: By mineral oil for baby cares, I am assuming you are referring to constipation. The latter is common in both breastfed and formula fed babies. Usually we recommend prune juice in young infants and increased fiber in diet in older ones. Hydration is very important. If these methods do not work, a glycerin suppository can be used in younger kids; you should seek out your dr if constipation is common.

Long term use of mineral oil, what are the health risks?

For constipation?: May have little effect. If you are constipated for long time, may want to try other medications and eat more fruits and vegetables

How long does mineral oil take to work? (tbsp since fri) no bm.

Variable time: I assume you are taking mineral oil for constipation. In my experience I have seen mineral oil work rather quickly or not at all. If it doesn`t relieve constipation after 5 days it probably won't help. Depending on the reason for constipation, you may need a different medicine or further dietary modification.

Does mineral oil have calories?

Does mineral oil have calories?

Yes, but No: Since you cannot digest it, the approx 120 calories per Tablespoon do not add to your daily intake at all. Even if it did - this would play no role in your healthy weight reduction diet. Healthy moderate diets with adequate exercise are much more significant if weight loss is a concern. Best!

Mineral oil for constipation, does it work?

Mineral oil for constipation, does it work?

Yes it works: But may take several doses over several days to resolve. Stay on liquids during the time until the constipation is resolved. It is not meant nor good to be taken every day for long periods of time. Better to treat the cause of the constipation and hence prevent it than to have to treat the constipation after it develops.

Does mineral oil have calories since it is an oil? I've heard it doesn't...

Oil: Oil is nine calories per gram. The highest of foods. Think of olive oil, peanut oil, and the list of oils that are also foods go on and on…. Now if you are looking at this as a laxative then you may be right that it is not absorbed well. But oils are foods in many instances.

Is it correct that mineral oil is not absorbed and thus has not nutritional value?

Is it correct that mineral oil is not absorbed and thus has not nutritional value?

Negative value: Not only does mineral oil have no nutritional value but it can interfere with the absorption of fat soluble vitamins (a, d, e and k). I do not recommend the use of mineral oil and, if ever used, should only be used on rare occasions. See http://www. Nationalmssociety. Org/treating-ms/medications/mineral-oil.

Please tell me if oils like mineral oil on skin are safe and if they can have any side effects?

Please tell me if oils like mineral oil on skin are safe and if they can have any side effects?

Safe.: Contrary to what you may have read on-line, mineral oil is pretty harmless. If you apply it right after showering, while your skin is still moist, it will seal in the moisture and relieve dryness. If you have very sensitive skin you might get pimples or bumps from plugged up oil glands - but you won't know unless you try it.
