If people don't get told in the icu that they may end up with cognitive impairment from delirium, how are they ever going to find out what caused it?
Good question: Having previously experienced delirium, i can only say that it was a horrifying experience. I now have great empathy for those who go through it. In the facility that i was in it was only brought under control when i asked in the midst of the delirium for a psychiatric consultation. Most people would not have the awareness that psychiatrists treat delirium. I was fortunate enough to have one of the country's leading experts in delirium available to bring it to a quick end. Both families and patients need to be educated about delirium. It is very poorly done in most facilities around the country. I agree with the implications of your comment. ...Read more

Acute = fast: Acute renal failure can act fast and as it gets severe you'd most likely know about it and seek help, but possibly not soon enough to reverse the condition. Similarly, the problem with chronic renal failure is that you may not catch it early enough to reverse or delay the progression of the disease. Too much Here: This is very deep and very complicated. I will assume you are talking about yourself. Let's start with the meth. I sat last night in a group of former meth addicts who came to this group broken, lonely, and full of shame and in being clean they have found health, happiness and repeatedly reported not feeling so alone any more. There is hope and life on the other side of addiction. ...Read more
