Wait: Medication can lose it's effectiveness past expiration date, but I would not expect it to not be effective at all; especially if only 18 months expired. It will not be harmful at all that you took an expired zyrtec. DON'T!: The maximum clinical dose of Zyrtec (cetirizine) is 10mg per day. 50mg is therefore 5X the recommended daily dose! You will most likely be fine if you did, you should call the Poison control # and drink a lot of fluids,..but if you make a habit of it you run the risk of damaging your liver. In a 2 year study of rats that were given higher doses of Zrytec it revealed increased Liver tumors in the those rats! ...Read more
