How much weight should I be gaining each month if I am already overweight?

How much weight should I be gaining each month if I am already overweight?

Depends: If you are overweight then i would stress eating a largely plant based diet of unprocessed food. The majority of your diet should be fruits and vegetables and fish. You should exercise everyday for at least 45 minutes. Walking, prenatal yoga, etc are examples. If you eat right and exercise, you may not put on any weight or even lose some initially. ...Read more

Overweight (Definition)

Nearly two-thirds of the United States population is overweight. There are many ways to determine if a person is overweight, but experts believe that a person's body mass index (BMI) is the best way to assess an adult's weight in relation to their height. * A BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 is considered normal. * Adults with a BMI between 25 and 29.9 are considered overweight. There are exceptions. For example, an athlete may have a higher BMI but not be overweight. * Adults with a BMI greater than 30 are considered obese. * Adults with a BMI greater than or equal to 40 are considered extremely obese. * Anyone more than 100 pounds overweight is considered morbidly obese. A person with a high BMI may have a normal amount of body fat is they have ...Read more

My doctor wants to put me on medicine for hyperactive thyroid. I am already slightly overweight; should I be worried about gaining even more weight?

Thyroid: The thyroid is involved in many bodily functions. One is metabolic rate. Normal thyroid function is a controversial topic. Some use lab values while others include symptoms as primary determinants of "normal" function. While reducing thyroid effects on metabolism can result in weight gain, the effects can be countered with exercise and low carb diets. Ask your Dr. to explain their rational. ...Read more

Counting : Counting calories and keeping a food journal can be two of the most effective ways to lose weight. Being accountable for what you put in your mouth by writing it down and being aware of calorie values will make you think about what you are eating. It is important to eat a good variety of foods, so as long as you count your calories, nothing necessarily has to be "off-limits". Get a kitchen scale and weigh your foods in order to know exactly how much you are eating and therefore how many calories. The healthiest diets involve whole grains, lots of fruits and vegetables, lean meats, fish and moderate dairy. Sugars and added oils/butter should be used sparingly. You need to eat at least three meals a day, though some people will advocate more frequent, smaller meals. An exercise program with a lot of cardio (brisk walking every day is the best!) is also important for muscle tone, strength, and cardiovascular health. Sometimes enlisting the help of your doctor, a nutritionist or a personal trainer can be helpful. You should also consider joining weight watchers - it's been proven to be the most successful weight loss program. Good luck! ...Read more

If I am now 30 pounds overweight. If i go on a juicing diet for a month can I lose all the weight?

If I am now 30 pounds overweight. If i go on a juicing diet for a month can I lose all the weight?

Probably, but why?: If you consume fewer calories than you burn, no matter what diet you are on, you will lose weight. However, once you go off that diet, you will gain all the weight back. Rather than doing fad diets, you should make an effort to eat regularly, healthy meals, low in starches and processed foods, do more exercise, so you can achieve slow but steady weight loss that you can sustain. ...Read more

Almost 18, overweight 240, tried losing weight in grade 9 lost 10 lbs in a month but exams came & gained 7 lbs in a week. Why?

Almost 18, overweight 240, tried losing weight in grade 9 lost 10 lbs in a month but exams came & gained 7 lbs in a week. Why?

Probably because...: One ate more food or drinks, meaning calories, than one used up during that week. Some women also hold onto water-weight and/or poop-weight during certain days of their menstrual cycle. If those days happen to be at the same time as when she eats too many calories, then the sudden weight gain will even be more striking. To not gain weight, one cannot eat more calories than one uses up! ...Read more

I am overweight and my weight is 125kgs and height is 5foot 4 inches and i wanted to loose my weight in 7 months what diet I should follow?

I am overweight and my weight is 125kgs and height is 5foot 4 inches and i wanted to loose my weight in 7 months what diet I should follow?

Small frequent meals: A diet that is high in protein, high on fiber and low in carbohydrates can help. A rule of thumb for a woman is 1000 calories if you are 5 feet tall, plus another 50 calories for every inch above that, plus another 20% if you do some exercise. That's to maintain weight. To lose weight, subtract 100-200 calories from the total. Don't plan on losing it all in 7 months. That's too fast. ...Read more
