Unknown: You can probaly lose weight faster if you don't drink the water since water has weight of its own. Water by itself has no nutrient value. How much soda: It would depend on how much soda you drink. I rarely drink soda so, for me, not much if any weight loss. If you drink a can or more a day, add up all the calories and drinking water instead will result in some weight loss eventually. For example. Wishful thinking: Drinking water alone won't help you lose wt, if you don't change other variables of your life--other foods/drinks and activities. If drinking water alone helps people lose wt, no drug company would spend money on making wt loss pills.
