Is there a way to find out why did I gain some weight after I started drinking 8 glasses of water per day?

Water is heavy: Just remember that 16oz of water = 1 lb. So drinking 16.9oz bottle gives you an instant weight gain of 16.9--this is only the physical aspect of water--its weight. You sweat, pee, poop, and breath which all eliminate water. 2/3 of body is actually water-weight. If u were dehydrated, drinking recoups this loss but gains the wt. Body tries to keep in good balance. Don't get discouraged. Good luck.

Can you tell me how much weight can I lose if I only drink 20 glasses of water per day for two weeks?

A lot/not advisable: This is not a good idea. Not only would you be starving yourself, your body would break down vital tissue protein, depletion of your fuel reserves, and body fat. Your lean body mass would decrease as well as strength and stamina. The water would be excreted as usual through urine, but your electrolyte balance would be overly diluted without adequate food intake. Talk to your md about your diet.

Can drinking 8 glasses of water a day make you gain weight?

Can drinking 8 glasses of water a day make you gain weight?

Not long term: If you drink water and climb on a scale you will have more "water" weight, which disappears over time. Since water has no caloric value it will not add any weight in the long term.

Drinking water does: Water alone does not make you lose weight. It is the lack of eating food which makes the difference. Water simply gives you a feeling of a full stomachwhich doesnotlast morethan 1 or 2 hours. But this is not the best way to lose weight effectivekly. Along with water you should eats ome low-calorie foods like fruits, salads, veggies, grains and proteins from snacks (like nuts, eggs and fish).

Does drinking lots of water (probably 1.5 to 2 liters a day) help you LOSE weight or GAIN weight?

Does drinking lots of water (probably 1.5 to 2 liters a day) help you LOSE weight or GAIN weight?

Helps you lose wt: Drinking lots of water is recommended by most wt loss specialists. For one thing, it helps to make you feel full so that you are less likely to want to eat foods that will cause wt gain. It also helps your intestines and helps prevent constipation. The worst thing to drink if you are trying to lose wt is a soft drinks, which is loaded with sugar but water is the best at curbing your thirst!

I drink around 2 to 4 liters of water a day, will this cause me to retain water and gain weight? I ask because I was told it does... Thank you

Depends: We lose fluids through tears, sweat and even breathing. If the total amount of fluid you lose is less than what you drink, you will retain water and gain weight. If you lose more than you drink, you will lose weight.

Is it true that I should drink half of my body weight (in ounces) of water per day? If I weight 228, then 114 ounces?

Is it true that I should drink half of my body weight (in ounces) of water per day? If I weight 228, then 114 ounces?

Numbers are silly: You need to drink enough to pee every 6-8 hours, not hold to some artificial number. The food you eat otherwise often has a free water content that must be factored into such numbers. Applesauce or similar products are 95% free water while most vegetables are 60%. By the time you sit down with a calculator to decide if you meet the "goal" you have wasted your day.

Your body can: Retain water and this can cause temporary weight gain and also wash out important electrolytes that allow your body to function properly. See your doc or a nutritionist for a diet that suits you. Many folks folks find low carb and higher protein helpful. Avoid low-fat diets. Good fat is essential. Peace and good health. To gain weight I need to eat a decent diet, work out hard, drink water, take in enough protein and add 300-500 extra calories a day right?

And recover: You're right; the one thing I would add is build in time for rest and recovery. Your body grows between your weight training sessions. Ideally you also get 8 hours of sleep a night, and schedule rest days in your workout schedule. Four days a week is plenty to stimulate muscle hypertrophy; more and you risk not giving yourself enough recovery time.

Over hydrated??: I don't know how much water you are drinking. But it possible that you are overdoing this water thing... And are all "water logged"??? There can be problems with drinking gallons of water each day such as electrolyte abnormalities hyponateremia or low serum sodium. You mention history of depression and anxiety. Please keep diary of how much water you ingest and present it to your doctor.

Started drinking more water to shed water weight. I gained two pounds instead. Does it make sense for the scale to go up initially?

Started drinking more water to shed water weight. I gained two pounds instead. Does it make sense for the scale to go up initially?

Yes: Yes. Initially and for a while. The laws of physics don't change over time. If a person drinks more water, the person will have more water inside her body and thus more water weight. The more water one drinks, the more she will weigh... until her body can hold no more water, at which point she will likely get into trouble from having diluted out her bodily salts. So, think about this differently.

Can drinking too much water ever be a bad thing or cause weight gain?

Can drinking too much water ever be a bad thing or cause weight gain?

Yes: In fact, you can have too much of a good thing. If you drink too much water (we are talking an immense amount) or try to hold your bladder, you can retain too much water in your body. This can cause a problem with the salt concentrations in your body which can lead to a host of problems. This can include heart problems and problems with the signals of your nerves and to your muscles.

Does drinking water with eating cause to gain more weight?

Does drinking water with eating cause to gain more weight?

I don't think so: Eating a fruit (s) before your meal may cause early satiety. Eating slowly, and bitting food well causes early satiety. Therefore, you eat less which may help with your weight.

I weight 136 lbs (i gained 1.6 pounds from a splurge yesturday) if I drink 136 oz of water and decrease my salt can I get back to 134 again fast?

Weight loss: There are many basic metabolic rate calculators available online that you can calculate how many calories your body burns by doing nothing. On average there are 3500 calories/lb. If you want to lose 1.6 pounds you need to multiply 3500x1.6 and subtract how much you burn off. Let's say this comes out to 4200 calories. Try not to micromanage your weight.
