How Much Water A Day For High Bp
Female, 26. I constantly swell all over. No high bp, keep my sodium under 1500mg/ day, 8 cups of water/ day. What causes this?
More info needed: You should see your doctor for a full evaluation. The most worrisome, yet uncommon, causes of swelling could be kidney or heart disease. More common, and less concerning, could be 1) unknown sources of sodium (you may be surprised if you read all the labels of food) or 2) peri-menstrual bloating. More urgent evaluation is needed if short of breath, scant urine, weak, dizzy, chest pain. ...Read more
A blood pressure reading has two numbers: a systolic blood pressure and a diastolic blood pressure. The systolic blood pressure is the maximum pressure the blood exerts on the vessels when the heart is beating. The diastolic blood pressure is the pressure the blood exerts on the vessels in between heartbeats. Hypertension, or high blood pressure, begins when the systolic blood pressure remains above 140 or when the diastolic blood pressure remains above 90. Hypertension can be a result of increased blood flow through vessels or increased resistance to ...Read more

My dad is having severe pain and bloating in his stomach&has had a double hernia for awhile and has high bp. Was put on water pills. Is this dangerous?
Watch for dehydratio:
Basically, if stomach pain and bloating are preventing him from eating and/or drinking, the main concern would be dehydration, depending on the strength and type of water pills.
Keeping his BP well controlled is very important as his age (64), gender (male), and risk factor (high bp), place him at risk of heart disease. Hernia pain could mask or mimic a heart attack. Go to er if any question. ...Read more
5ft 23yr old female. My weight is around 248 bmi is around 49. High BP & HR, PCOS, no menstraul cycle in 4-5m, retain water, heart burn & stomach aches almost daily. Best advice?
Eat fewer calories: Our bodies are in a simple state of balance. If we eat more calories than we use, we gain weight. If we eat fewer calories than we use, we lose weight. So, people who have to lose weight must eat less than they use on most days, but occasionally may eat more than they use on other days... Thus, it averages out over time, so that they are eating FEWER calories overall, than they use up each day. ...Read more

A 19 y/o student has a high BP of 145/100 and when check again next day it is normal 110/70.Why is it high on the first day?
"if" someone does have high bp, do the readings usually stay high the whole day/evening or do they lower at times to "normal".
Fluctuate: BP normally fluctuates. High BP is defined as "basal" bp, that is, BP that remain elevated, on average, at complete rest in a calm comfortable setting. BP is dynamic (always changing) and high levels during exercise is healthy/physiologic. High levels at rest are not. Conversely, BP averages are used, so occ. Normal pressure at rest with a high average still needs to be controlled. ...Read more

I am taking metoprolol succinate ER 25mg once a day for my high bp from 1 month. But now my bp is 120/80. Can I reduce dose to 12.5 mg?
No not yet: The fact that your BP is now 120/80 (normal is 130/80 or less) is because the medicine is working. Depending on your co-morbidities and age, you may be best served staying on it. 25 mg is a very very small dose, by the way. Having said that, if u want to get off of it, make a sincere effort to limit ur dietary salt intake to 2000 mg or less/day, and exercise atleast 300 min/ week. ...Read more
Is alcohol okay with 25 mg of Zoloft (sertraline) once a day at night along with 5 mg of lotensin for high bp?
Can't say online: Best bet is to ask the physician who is prescribing these meds for you. Zoloft (sertraline) is an antidepressant / anti-anxiety drug. Alcohol is a depressant. So... Generally I would say that having 1-2 alcoholic beverages weekly is probably fine on this regimen, but having several drinks at once is a bad idea... In the end, check with your doctor about the specifics and about how much you intend to drink. ...Read more
My husband has high BP anxiety/depression and was put on lexapro (escitalopram). On day 6 and his BP is 104/61 p118. Is this safe. He's 39yrs old?
Check it again: You have not listed what his blood pressure medication is. It's possible that there is a drug drug interaction between his antidepressant and his antihypertensive medication. The blood pressures low but not dangerously low and the pulse is elevated. That would indicate that either the blood pressure medication is too high or that he is dehydrated. If he gets lightheaded or dizzy or develops any other symptoms he may need to be seen quickly. Most likely however his blood pressure will go back up provided that he pushes fluids tonight. Contact the prescribing doctor tomorrow and find outif he wishes anything else to be done about it. Best wishes. ...Read more
