How Much Vitamin D3 Should Pregnant Women Take
It depends on...: We can get adequate vit. D from the sun, but this depends on where you live, the season, how much time you spend in the sun, how dark your skin is etc. Most people benefit from vit. D3 from oct through april, & even all year if you don't spend much time in the sun or use sunscreen. A good dose for most people is 2000-5000 units/day. It may help to test your levels. Optimal levels are 50-80 ng/ml. ...Read more

I want to be pregnant, is it safe to take multivitamins with 400mcg folic acid prescribed for pregnant women even if i'm not? What do u suggest to take?
I'm currently vitamin D deficient last checked (16). I want to purchase some vitamin D3. But I'm unsure of the dosage and how long I should take it.
Try 5000 iu/day: Most adults need to take 5-8000 iu/day to achieve optimal levels, which are 50-80. Everyone in US should take Vit D3 in fall and winter months as it is impossible to get D from the sun at that time. If you get enough sun in summer you don't need to take it then, but you do not seem to be getting sun so I advise you take it year-round. It is ideal to start it before you become pregnant as the folate (folic acid) is esp. important in the first 2 weeks of pregnancy but hopefully you have gotten adequate folate (folic acid) from your diet You will still benefit from starting it as soon as possible. ...Read more
