How Much Valium And Librium Can I Take A Day
Hello, I take valium 5mg, 3x a day as prescribed. I am searching for possibly a new benzodiazipine, what's your opinion on an equal dosing of librium?
You would take 10mg of librium 3x per day.
I would advise of course to check with your doctor first and make sure to understand that long term use of benzo's are generally not recommended except for very rare situations due to side effects. ...Read more
Valium (diazepam) is an older benzodiazepine tranquilizer. It was the #1 prescribed drug (of any kind) in the us in the late 1960s but is used less now due to drug interactions and active metabolites. It is still used for anxiety and as "pre-medication" for uncomfortable medical and minor surgical procedures. It is habit-forming, should not be used with alcohol, ...Read more
On 15mg of Valium a day. I want off benzos. Would Librium or Clorazepate be better to withdrawal from? Valium has a long half life, but not duration.
Clorazepate: Is usually better and easier to withdraw from it has a slightly shorter half life. An addictionologist would be able to help you. ...Read more
A little different: It depends on the effect you're looking for. Librium and valium are both fairly long-acting benzodiazepines, but valium may be a little more potent as an anxiolytic. Valium may also be more lipid soluble, getting into the brain more quickly than librium. Librium's effect may be delayed also because the parent compound is less potent than its metabolites. ...Read more
May be subjective: You may find that 10mg Librium is not as effective as 10mg of valium since they are not equivalent. However, such medications are prescribed based on symptom relief which is subjective so it may be enough in some people. Talk to a psychiatrist to get an answer tailored to your specific situation. ...Read more

Will taking Ambien (zolpidem) for sleep make the 8 mg of Valium I take a day for pelvic pain, itching, and spasms less effective.
Yes but sedating: These drugs are both sedating and could increase each other's sedating effects and possible effects on coordination, ability to drive safely, etc. But they don't interact in other dangerous ways. ...Read more
I take 8 mg of ativan (lorazepam) a day I have 60 10 mg tablets of Valium what's the best way to come off iam only prescribed 4mg of ativan (lorazepam) a day?
This is tricky: Brandsulli, this may not be something you can do on your own. Ativan (lorazepam) is short-acting; valium is long-acting. You may be able to use fewer valium/day and break them in half as you taper off. Bottom line: you need to talk to whoever is prescribing the Ativan (lorazepam) and look for something other than benzodiazepines to treat your anxiety. Ativan (lorazepam), valium and the like are for temporary use. ...Read more

Can one take Valium (5-10mg/day max, only as needed) and (Bayer) aspirin (regular dose, one pill 3-4 times a day) together for one week?
Yes, usually okay.: Very low to almost no potential for problems from taking Valium and aspirin as you described for one week, though 5 mg of Valium twice a day rather than 10 mg once a day may provide somewhat better control of anxiety. Suggest avoiding Valium and similar medications if you have a personal or family history of alcohol problems due to high potential for addiction. ...Read more

Severe insomnia take 5 mg valium/ 10 mg baclofen b4 bed. Wake 3 4 the day. If I don't take anything I don't sleep. I tried for three weeks. Why?
Sleep problems: It's not clear from your info, what kind of evaluation you've had for your insomnia. There are multiple possible causes for this, and effective treatment requires accuracy. Valium and Baclofen are sedating, but aren't meant to be relied on as sleeping pills. They can also lead to tolerance and rebound insomnia on stopping. Please see your doctor, and/or a psychiatrist or sleep medicine doc. ...Read more

Quitting marijuana, and really trying to get off Valium. Been on benzos for 3 years, at 12.5mg Val. A day. Can I take L-Theanine and melatonin to help?
Get supervision: You are trying to change lots of things at the same time which seems like a positive step. However, if you have been taking Valium consistently for three years, you want to go off with a doctor's help. Stopping abruptly could lead to other problems, among them seizures. The supplements that you mentioned can be helpful, but not in place of supervision. ...Read more

I have Panic Disorder, and take Valium (8mg/day) and Lexapro (escitalopram) (20mg/day). I drink coffee every morning. Seems to add to anxiety. Best to give it up?
Yes: Many patients who are highly anxious are very sensitive to coffee and products which have caffeine.
