How Much Time Will I Need To Take Off Of Work After My Gallbladder Surgery
The gallbladder is a sac-like structure located under the right lobe of the liver. It is attached to the common bile duct via the cystic duct. The gallbladder can store bile when the bile is not needed, and can squeeze bile into the bile duct and intestine for digestion when a person eats larger ...Read more
Depends: It depends on what type of surgery was done and how bad your gallbladder disease was. And it also depends on you. For gallbladder removed laparoscopically most people are out of the hospital in less than 24 hours and some can get back to work in a couple of days. Others may have more trouble dealing with pain after surgery and take longer to recover. If your gallbladder is very sick.... Read more

Get evaluated: If you are still sick after gallbladder surgery, then get in to see your surgeon, to evaluate you for a post operative problem. If you are free of post operative problem, then an additional diagnosis needs to be considered. Okay to ask about a stomach scope/egd, a tech hida scan and blood lab tests. Good luck. Read more

Not from Gallbladder: It is common to have mildly elevated liver enzymes. Most of the time, the elevation is not from a problem with the gallbladder, so, I'm not surprised. The most common causes are alcohol use and fatty liver disease. Of course other causes such as viral hepatitis, autoimmune hepatitis, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis are also possible and need to be ruled out by you physician with blood work. Read more
Not much: Since these procedures can be accomplished concurrently and laparoscopically, postoperative restrictions should be minimal. You will probably be advised to avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise for about two weeks. Some but not all surgeons might recommend a liquid or pureed diet for a couple of weeks after hiatal hernia surgery. Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Ill-advised: I don't recommend taking a stimulant laxative so soon after surgery, even if it was done laparascopically. Artificially induced peristalsis can be quite painful, occasionally dangerous, post op if the bowel isn't ready to resume working normally. I recommend walking, stool softener, a light diet and minimal use of narcotic meds during your recovery. Best wishes! Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I have hematoma after gallbladder surgery. Don't know how big it is. How long does it usually take for the body to absorb it and why does it happen?
About Six Weeks: Hematomas are quite common after surgery. It is just collection of blood which gets clotted after the surgery and with time liquefies and gets absorped in the blood stream. Most hematomas do not require any treatment and resolve by itself. But sometime if they are large and pressing on some organ/ structure or it gets infected, then it has to be drained and treated appropriately. Discuss with Surgeon Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Yes: Yes, but it depends on what type of hernia in terms of location and severity. A groin hernia or complex hernia would probably not be best to do at the same time. A relatively straightforward umbilical or incisional hernia can be done at the same time, but it also depends on the condition of the gallbladder. Discuss with your surgeon to find out what's best for you. Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
