Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more
Only if needed: Lidocaine has been assigned to pregnancy category b by the fda. Animal studies have failed to reveal evidence of fetal harm. It is widely used for procedures during pregnancy but it does cross the placemta and enter the fetal bloodstream. Lidocaine should only be given during pregnancy when needed. Small amounts are probably ok. Ask your OB doc. ...Read more

It should settle back down soon afterwards to the normal range. If it stays elevated and you are having pain or fever, you should contact your OB right away. ...Read more
36 weeks pregnant w/twins, have been on bed rest for 10 wks. The wt of babies last wk was 5.6lbsand 6 lbs. If induced at this stage will babies be ok?
Define OK??: If your question is primarily that of survival, outlook is good. However, at 36 wks there is a 50% risk of premature lung disease, more for male infants than female. Successful treatment is the usual outcome at this stage, but the longer you can stay pregnant, the better your chances of avoiding neonatal intensive care for the babies. ...Read more

I'm 36 weeks pregnant and feel vibrations/twitches in my stomach. Is this normal? Do babies have seizures inutero??
Likely hiccups: Some have speculated that the close position of the babies stomach to the diaphragm causes a rubbing that triggers the hiccups. This is common & generally continues on through the first months after birth. Once the child grows longer & the stomach can drop away from the diaphragm the frequency declines. It bothers mom's more than the baby. Not a seizure! ...Read more
How long is an infant protected from the flu shot given to a pregnant woman in the 3rd trimester? I got the 4 virus version.
Hard to be sure: The antibodies built during pregnancy are pushed into baby at a level higher per pound than mom retains. That said, all such antibodies begin to age out and become less effective with time. By 3-6 mo there is little if any left. Since there are always a few more flu strains circulating than the ones they can put in the vaccine, it is important to avoid exposure as the primary form of prevention ...Read more
If your baby already weighs 6 pounds and 10 ounces at 36 weeks pregnant, does this mean you're going to have a big baby by the time you give birth?
Maybe...: If that weight estimate was done by sono, you need to know that sonos done near term are not very accurate at guessing weight. If it is a correct estimate, you could be looking at an 8+ lb. Baby at delivery if fetal growth continues at the same rate. ...Read more
36 weeks pregnant & want to know, if I haven't taken much prenatal pills throughout my pregnancy can I still have a healthy baby?
Normal to worry!: Unfortunately, 36 weeks is just the start of a long period of worrying about your children! while it would have been optimal to have taken prenatal vitamins, you get many of the same nutrients if you eat a reasonably healthy diet. Not smoking is also critical. If you are a smoker, stop now. Take comfort in the reassurance of your baby's activity and hopefully, normal exams. Good luck. Lgromkomd. ...Read more

Define "in": If for any reason you end up on the hospitals radar as a possible drug user, the kids pee and poo will be sent fro drug tests. The pee can clear relatively quickly but the poo retains drug residue for months. A hair sample would also hold it. Will cervix be open at 37 weeks 5 days if it was closed at 36 weeks 5 days pregnant with 4th child?
I am 36 weeks pregnant and baby's head is 2/5ths engaged. Does this mean that I will have my baby any time soon?
Not necessarily: You are referring to station. Station is a very subjective measurement of how far down the birth canal the baby is. A lower station tends to imply a sooner delivery, but its not a reliable indicator. Different practitioners can measure a different station in the same woman at the same time as well - its more of a gestalt than a reliable objective measure, despite its objective definition. ...Read more
Drywall is being sanded in our home and the dust is everywhere. I am 36 weeks pregnant. Is the dust harmful to my baby?
Hello. I am currently 36 weeks pregnant with baby #2 and have been experiencing a very very small gush of clear fluid in the mornings when I wake up.
I used deodorant instead of usual stick? And it went directly to my nose, now I worry very much, pregnant 36 weeks could it harm baby?
Don't worry: The little bit of chemical that likely actualy got into your system is miniscule, tiny. The lining of your nose filtered out most of the stuff that entered, and there are no large amounts of anything harmful to the baby. Your body would clear out things that would get past the nose filter barriers before it would get to baby. (if you were huffing the stuff all the time, different answer.). ...Read more

I'm 29 weeks pregnant, fetus too small? (2 lbs.) should I be worried? My 1st baby only weigh 5lb.10oz at 36 weeks?
Depends: There are two types of small babies. Some babies are constitutionally small because their parents are smaller people. If you had a previous small baby then maybe that is your situation again. Other times babies are small because there's a problem with the placenta. Sometimes this can be due to conditions such as high blood pressure or diabetes your doctor knows best how concerning the smallness. ...Read more
