I have an active 7 year old boy who is 4 ft 1 in and weighs 64 lbs. Is he overweight for his age and height?
Big for age not obes: Your son is growing as fast as my son. If you fit him on a growth chart he will be at 95th percentile for weight and about 90th percentile for height. Which means he has outgrown 90% of boys his age. Follow this link for growth chart: http://www. Cdc. Gov/growthcharts/data/set1clinical/cj41l021.Pdf. Note that your child's bmi is 18.7 which is normal his weight matches his height!
EpiPen (epinephrine) Jr: In addition to your precautions at home, make sure child has written emergency action plan at school and access to Epipen (epinephrine) (home and school) for any signs of anaphylaxis. Be sure to replace with new prescription each year even when unused.See 1 more doctor answer
Anion gap is 2 in a seven year old boy. His IGG was 107. He was diagnosed with ulcertive colitis several years ago. Should I be concerned?
IgG 107: IgG level appears to be low and that itself may predispose one to an autoimmune disease like UC. On the other hand, immunodeficiency may be associated with inflammatory bowel disease or unusual infection or parasitic invasion in the bowel. I would recommend that you contact an immunologist to get a good workup.
What is the possible cause of reddening of one nipple in a seven years old boy and the other nipple is normal?
Mgt: I would suggest a visit with your PCP or uploading a photo of the area to your child's EMR for an inbox consultation. An infection is one possible cause. I would suggest monitoring for fever and increase in the extent of the redness.
60-130 bpm.: The range would be 60-130 BPM with an average resting heart rate of 100 bpm.
I have a 7 year old boy, that gets into trouble at school all the time, should I try him on ADHD medicine?
Many reasons: Many reasons and not just one answer. Your childs behavior might or might not be adhd.A proper thorough assessment is fundamental. A courtesy symptom checklist is not enough. Please see a specialist with proper knowledge and understanding of adhd and possible co-morbidities. A pediatrician is a good start. Psychologists, psychiatrists and behavioral/developmental pediatricians could also provide help.See 2 more doctor answers
My soon to be 7 year old boy has been doing a lot of pull ups lately. He swings a lot on monkey bars too. Are pull ups at his age inadvisable?
Go for it: There's a concern that lifting very heavy weights while the epiphyses are immature may cause bleeds there that will stunt growth. Boys have been doing chin-ups for years to their considerable benefit and in 40 years in medicine, I've never heard of a mishap beyond falling off. Stop worrying, follow common sense, and I'm glad Junior is exercising. More boys should follow his example.
My 7 year old boy is increasingly violent and destructive in his disrespect of me, should I have him examined for odd/ADHD?
YES.: Violent & destructive behavior in a 7 year old is worrisome, especially since it may increase as he approaches adolescence. Whatever the cause, he needs to be evaluated. I suggest you take him first to his pediatrician to see if there is a medical reason for his behavior. S'he can then refer him to the appropriate specialist. I wish the best for both of you.See 2 more doctor answers
Vairies: This is hard to answer in this space. You clearly have some concern and would be best served discussing this with your pediatrician.....In general boys are momma's boys and girls are daddy's girls. Boys should want mom to do much for them. He should be able to separate from you for school etc. Any concerns you have you should discuss with someone. ..It may be very reassuring.
Subscience: The "ideal weights" and so forth are entertainment, not science. Even the body mass index was never intended by quetlet for individuals. A person's best weight is whatever looks and feels right to him/her while taking part effectively in the fitness activities that they enjoy. A 17 year old male sprinter is likely to be "undreweight", a massively-muscled linebacker "obese". Common sense.
My 7 year old Boy got sunburnt, his face And shoulders are too red and hurting. What can I use for him?
Supportive care: 5 ways to relieve sunburn. Give 100% fruit juice or water replace lost fluids. Use cool water to help your child's skin feel better. Give your child acetaminophen or ibuprofen for pain. Only use medicated lotions if your child's doctor says it is OK. Keep your child out of the sun until the sunburn is fully healed.
I'm worrying about my 7 year old boy alot, silly things like him having accidents, choking on things I feel like im trying to wrap him in cotton wool?
Concerned parent: You're being a loving, caring, concerned parent. [i'd use bubblewrap myself; then he can have fun popping the bubbles :-)] unless your concerns are preventing restful sleep or causing ulcers or panic attacks, I shouldn't worry. Being a good parent is full of worries such as those you described & more. Be concerned but not overly protective. See comment.
Anger issues with 7 year old boy my child can't get along with anyone friends he shows fits of rage frequently. The kids in school don't hang around with him his 2 best friends don't even want to be with him constantly upsetting household. We've tried ev
You: You should give your child's doctor a call and ask for a referral to a child psychologist, psychiatrist or behavioral specialist. You are not alone in dealing with your son's behavior (i have had many parents come to me with similar situations and concerns to yours). A behavioral specialist can help find better ways for your son to express his feelings and for your family to cope with his outbursts. They may be able to suggest new ways of dealing with his behavior. There will probably not be any quick fixes, but with continual therapy and consistent parenting, he will improve over time. Good luck!See 1 more doctor answer
