How much red wine is necessary to drink to lower eye pressure caused by glaucoma?

None: Red wine has not been shown to reduce eye pressure. No dietary regimens reduce pressure sufficiently to be effective. You would be much better off using medication and any other treatment recommended by your eye doctor than to risk permanent vision loss with unproven treatments. ...Read more

How does elevated blood sugar affect the eyes and is it safe to have cataract surgery if bs is spiking to 470?

How does elevated blood sugar affect the eyes and is it safe to have cataract surgery if bs is spiking to 470?

Affects circulation: High blood glucose affects your circulation & the small capillaries become abnormally modified with increased permeability. Also the increased BGL affects oxygen delivery to the retina. This blood leakage and decreased oxygen affects vision, especilally in states of chronic hyperglycemia. Your BGL is too high for ambulatory surgery center surgery. It's best to stabilize BGL (way below 300) before. ...Read more

My glaucoma is stable with good pressure. If I have vitrectomy for macular pucker how likely is it eye pressure will raise & cause damage to nerve?

Damage unlikely: Retinal surgeons are very knowledgeable about the possibility of pressure rise after retinal surgery. They schedule follow up examinations to deal with this if it occurs and prevent damage. Hi, i'd like to know if bad sinus pressure and headaches can lead to a high iop reading for your eye?

Hi, i'd like to know if bad sinus pressure and headaches can lead to a high iop reading for your eye?

Not likely: Ordinary sinus infections don't have direct affects on intraocular pressure. If by chance your sinus infection was so severe as to spread into the orbit (eye socket), then the associated pressure in the orbit can compress the eyeball and consequently raise iop. This latter infection (orbital cellulitis) is extremely serious and requires prompt medical and potential surgical management. ...Read more

Can sunglasses be bad for my eyes? Is it better to have darker-colored lenses or higher uv protection (or both)? I heard that darker sunglasses cause the pupil to dilate more, which makes your eyes more vulnerable to uv rays. Is this true? Should i get li

Ultraviolet : Ultraviolet (uv) light is harmful to the eyes, especially large amounts over long periods of time. In the United States, all sunglasses are required to block a very large percentage of the uv rays. The darkness of the sunglasses does not affect the uv filtering ability, since uv light is invisible and the uv blockers are clear. It is true that darker the sunglasses will open the pupil more and thus let in more uv light, but since almost all of it is being filtered by the sunglasses, this is not something to worry about. The exception would be specific eye diseases such as retinitis pigmentosa, in which extra high uv protection is a good idea. ...Read more

I'd like to know the minimum and maximum eye pressure. At what pressure is glaucoma indicated?

I'd like to know the minimum and maximum eye pressure. At what pressure is glaucoma indicated?

0-70: Minimum 0 mmhg when the eye is completely collapsed and too much fluid is exiting the eye for the amount made. Maximum somewhere around 70 mmhg since eventually the eye can't make any more fluid (ischemic ciliary body). With repeated injections, you may be able to make the eye pressure higher. Glaucoma is when the pressure causes retinal ganglion cell loss (a different number for everyone). ...Read more
