Many hazards: Most doctors would say milk is fine to give but there is good reason for caution; if milk is not organic it is likely from cows given bovine growth hormone (possible cause of cancer) and fed gmo corn. Simply put - if she is a breastfeeding lifeguard who doesn't use sunscreen - her milk is perfect. If she stays inside - an oral supplement of at least 5000iu will provide adequate levels in her milk. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Drinking a cup of milk (daily) fortified with vitamin d is it enough to get my body need of calcium and vit d and without exposing my body to rhe sun?
NOT EVEN CLOSE!: A cup of milk has 120 iu of vit. D. While the recommended daily intake (rdi) is 600 iu, most adults actually need 5-8000 iu/ day to achieve optimal levels. The rdi of calcium is 1000 mg and a cup of milk has about 300 mg. In most of the us sun exposure does not help in fall ; winter- you need to supplement.
