How much magnesium a day? How much is too much? Could magnesium contribute to insomnia if too much is taken?

Magnesium and sleep: Magnesium (Mg) is found in a variety of foods. If you eat a diverse diet (particularly high fiber foods), you will get plenty of Mg. The body regulates it quite well so unless you take Mg pills, there's no reason to worry about excess. As for sleep, Mg deficiency is associated with insomnia. So getting plenty of Mg from food is a good thing for sleep. Leafy greens, nuts, whole grains, seeds. ...Read more

Is magnesium safe for sleep to take every day?

YES!: Magnesium is an essential nutrient and we need it every day. It is safe ; non-toxic. If you take too much (esp. A poorly absorbed form) it can cause loose stools. The only potential hazard is in those with kidney failure, who are at risk of toxicity. Otherwise it is perfectly safe to take every day. See http://bit.Ly/1dpai09. ...Read more

You'll be ok: Hi It is very difficult to overdose on Magnesium. With the very little that you took, you won't have any issues. Our bodies are very good at keeping Magnesium levels in balance. Any excess will just get urinated out. I would however, just go back to 1 tab per day. 500mg is a little much, but you won't develop toxicities from just 2 days of it. Hope this helps ...Read more

I have bad muscle twiching all over and took 500mg magnesium a day and it worked very well. Is that a safe dosage per day.

Usually: If your kidneys work, and if you are not getting diarrhea (most people don't at that dose), then it should be a safe level to supplement, with many 1-a-day magnesium supplements being in that range. If twitching persists or is recurrent, should ask your dr about this, as might want to check blood work and/or look for cause(s). ...Read more
