Is lithium orotate safe to take?

Lithium orotate: Lithium orotate is reported to be a form of lithium which increases the lithium level inside cells. Lithium is not a vitamin but an element which usually exists in salt form and is used by psychiatrists to stabilize mood. Usually we monitor kidney & thyroid function while people take lithium in the usual forms prescribed. Probably these same tests should be done periodically if you take orotate ...Read more

Could I take lithium orotate and citalopram together safely?

POssibly safe: There are no absolute contraindications, but there may be some risk of your mood switching to mania or hypomania, or even into a mixed mood or rapid cycling state. There is to date no evidence that antidepressants alone or with lithium cure bipolar depression, talk to your psychiatrist about other options such as Latuda (lurasidone) which is approved for the treatment of bipolar depression alone or with lith. ...Read more

Is lithium orotate a safe supplement to take?

Is lithium orotate a safe supplement to take?

Yes in low doses: Pharmaceutical forms of lithium can be hazardous and should be used with caution. However, lithium orotate is much safer and generally taken in much lower doses (10-20 mg/day) vs. 900-1800 mg of prescription forms.
In low doses lithium orotate is safe, well-tolerated and has many benefits but keep the dose low. See

Taking ashwagandha 470 mg day/470 night for low cortisol-can I take small amount of lithium orotate for sleep?

Probably OK but Why: I guess the easy answer is that it is probably safe. However I am not quite sure I understand why you are doing this. Lithium orotate is very low dose formulation of lithium (a medication used mostly for bipolar or manic depression) that is available over the counter. It seems like an unusual choice to help you sleep. ...Read more

Hello.... I was prescribed clonazepam 0.5mg for anxiety.... I have mood disorder my lithium levels are low can I take lithium orotate?

Talk w/psychiatrist: For bipolar disorder, you'll need a mood stabilizer but not necessarily lithium (either carbonate or orotate). Talk with your psychiatrist about this. Lithium orotate is given in much lower quantities than the usual lithium carbonate. For depression, 150mg/day lithium orotate but in bipolar d/o 900-1200mg/day lithium carbonate. If your levels are low, you may not be protected from episodes. ...Read more

Can I take lithium orotate with clonazepam? Are there adverse reactions?

Can I take lithium orotate with clonazepam? Are there adverse reactions?

Yes, you can: Yes, lithium orotate can be taken with Clonazepam if prescribed for you by your doctor. Lithium orotate supposedly has better bioavailability than Lithium Carbonate -- and it's given in much lower doses. Typically 10-20mg/day for brain protective effects -- you need higher quantities of elemental lithium for bipolar d/o, often using lithium carbonate. Be watchful for any sedation, though. ...Read more

Help! Is 100 mg lithium orotate dangerous for someone weighing 103 pounds?

Unknown: I say "unknown" because dietary supplements are not regulated like medication so you may either be getting more or less than the intended amount. Most dietary supplements don't even contain what they say they do. Lithium carbonate (a medication) 100mg is safe so long as you're not dehydrated, and not taking NSAIDs or certain anti-hypertensives. A blood draw can verify safety. ...Read more

Can a low dose of lithium orotate trigger/cause hypomania in bipolar people? What's the max. Time you can be on it without worrying about toxicity? X

No: From what I can see it may have a dinky dose of lithium and lithium wouldn't trigger hypo mania but the amount in this supplement probably wouldn't prevent an episode either--you can get a blood test and see the amount in your system usual starting dose is around 900mg & therapeutic level is between 0.5-1.5 or 0.6-1.2 depending on the lab above these amounts are toxic levels and below may not be e ...Read more

When supplementing with OTC lithium orotate/aspartate, should blood tests still be done regularly to monitor lithium levels, same as prescription lithium types?

It depends: It depends on how much you're using. Usual doses of Lithium Carbonate for bipolar disorder are in the range of 900 mg - 2400mg/day acutely, and 400 mg-1200mg/day maintenance. At these levels, serum monitoring is needed to avoid toxicity. Lithium orotate is given in smaller (10-20 mg/day) doses -- and although much less likely to cause toxicity at that level, it still can in some. ...Read more
