Generally I am: Not in favor of chronic laxative use. A hi fiber diet along with 80-100 oz of caffeine free/alcohol free fluid per day usually corrects the problem. You are approaching the age for colon screening and if the above doesn't work for you after trying for 2 weeks minimum, you may be a candidate for a colonoscopy even at age 46 or at least an evaluation. Loose stools for over a week that leave quickly. Took Psyllium, helped bulk stools. Is soluble fiber the only problem? Eat fiber but most insoluble.

More importantly, try to focus on eating enough of the right foods to get 25-36g/d as opposed to eating poorly ; then attempting to supplement w/fiber pills/mixes. If you eat: Adequate fiber in your diet, ie fruits vegetables salads, whole grains, don't waste your money on metamucil or other fiber substitutes and don't forget to drink 80-100 oz of caffeine free/alcohol free fluid daily. It is still there: When you mix the psyllium in water, it is still there, same as when you add sugar to your coffee--it dissolves in the coffee, but it is still there.
