Is it safe to have an appendectomy in 2nd trimester of pregnancy? What is the success rate? Do they calm the fetus down prior to the procedure.

Overall yes but: Any surgical procedure, ideally , should wait until after the baby is born. Surgery, even simple surgery, carries risks to both the mom and fetus. However, if the appendectomy is truly needed then proceed. ...Read more

Would there be a (big) difference in the measurement if a 12wk old fetus compared to a 9wk old fetus? The gestational age would be determined in u/s?

Would there be a (big) difference in the measurement if a 12wk old fetus compared to a 9wk old fetus? The gestational age would be determined in u/s?

Yes: An first trimester sonogram is fairly accurate at dating a pregnancy (within a margin of error of about a week). Later sonograms should not change this established date. ...Read more

I'm 21 weeks of gestation, how can I know that the fetus is well?
Can dopplar study be reassuring?

Ultrasound: Many moms do find reassurance in US as they can actually see their developing baby moving around and the physician can check anatomy. They aren't required though. Ultrasound; Gestational sac at 10 weeks looks 5 times bigger than fetus ( which looks 7 weeks ) should i be concerned ?

Not really: There are several parameters that are measured to follow fetal growth in utero: biparietal diameter, femur length. They don't measure size of fetal sac, so no comparable data available and it's just nonsense to talk about it. ...Read more

Ultrasound says my fetus is 6 weeks 2 days but my gestational sac is 7 weeks 2 days. Heartbeat is normal. Is everything ok?

Most likely: The most accurate measurement of the fetus is the crown rump length. The gestational sac is like a fluid filled balloon, not a perfect sphere. So the measurement of the sac can vary quite a bit depending on what part was measured. If there is already a fetal heart beat, that is a great sign. Keep your follow up appointments with your OB doctor. ...Read more
