Can a child with mild craniocynostosis that goes untreated grow up without any head deformaties?

Can a child with mild craniocynostosis that goes untreated grow up without any head deformaties?

Unlikely: The prematurely closed suture closes one of 17 growth centers that allow the skull to enlarge in proportion to brain growth. The un-closed sutures allow the growth, but force the skull into distorted shape. If you don't fix it, the skull will be deformed. There are some newer minimal intervention approaches that can help the mild cases. Check into all methods but the earlier the repair the better.

If a child is born with mild craniocynostosis that is not corrected, is it possible that they can grow up with no head deformaties?

If a child is born with mild craniocynostosis that is not corrected, is it possible that they can grow up with no head deformaties?

Maybe: You don't say what mild is or which bones are involved. It is possible that a mild deformity will be covered by hair. There are effective non-surgical treatments and the milder it is, the easier it should be to correct.

Does sagittal craniosynostosis have to be treated? What would happen if a minor case isn't treated? Would a child's head grow mostly normally?

Does sagittal craniosynostosis have to be treated? What would happen if a minor case isn't treated? Would a child's head grow mostly normally?

Abnormal head shape: Premature fusion of the sagittal suture would stop growth from that site. Since the growing brain would need more room, it would expand the skull in the direction open to growth. This produces an oblong skull with increased front to back dimension while the side to side remained narrow. True CS needs to be fixed surgically in infancy.

Does a child with mild sagittal synostosis automatically need surgery? If no surgery is taken and it is mild with the childs head grow mostly normal?

Scaphocephaly?: Establishment of a plan of care should be determined by a craniofacial team. Coordination of care is the duty of your pediatrician. Surgical intervention prevents hypertension in the cranial vault and improves cosmetic appearance. 3-D CT will allow for animation for reconstruction thus helping to determine the need & timing of surgery. Baby should be evaluated by an experienced CF team ASAP

If a baby has a rather large head, would it be possible for their body grow for their head size?

If a baby has a rather large head, would it be possible for their body grow for their head size?

Yes.: Weight varies with height. But head size has nothing to do with height or weight. So although it is possible that someone's body could grow to match their large head, there is no guarantee it will happen. Further, the percentage of your body length that is your head is about 30% at birth, but only 10% as an adult, so babies tend to have bigger heads than adults.

What will happen if my baby's brain doesn't have enough room to grow? They say that if her head doesn't grow substantially from 39cm that I should worry

Craniosynostosis: There is rapid head growth in the first two years of life. The growth plates of the skull fuse together over these two years. If they close prematurely, then the growth of the brain can be restricted. See a neurosurgeon to evaluate your child's head growth.

Q: baby's ears sticks out a bit. What options are there to encourage her ears grow closer to head. She sleeps on her back and wakes up very read.

2 unrelated problems: The lop ears or ear cartilage that "stick out" is most likely developmental and I do not think you can do anything about it. When your baby is older, say 6 or 7, that minor deformity can be surgically corrected by a plastic surgeon. The redness that occurs is independent of the ear anatomy. Consult your pediatrician.

Eyebrow shaved by razor to stitch cut 3 months ago for child, hair grow but lighter than before what is approximate time to be like the other eyebro?

Eyebrow shaved by razor to stitch cut 3 months ago for child, hair grow but lighter than before what is approximate time to be like the other eyebro?

Time Will Tell: 3 yr old "eyebrow shaved 3 mos ago, hair lighter". The return of eyebrow hair can be prolonged after shaving taking weeks to months. Severe, deep skin wounds can lead to destruction of the hair follicle leading to changes in the hair consistency. New hair may be sparse, shorter, or coarse compared to the original hair. With time, there may be return to baseline however these changes could persist.

Can't open eye: Your baby may have chemical conjunctivitis as a result of the drops they put in the baby's eyes at birth. Try using a cotton all with lukewarm water to wipe away the matter, . If the condition persists see an eye doctor.

Can a child grow out of a gummy smile? Our eight year old has a very gummy smile, to the point that other kids at school will make fun of it. Of course this makes her very self-conscious, and prone to covering her face with her hand when she smiles. So, I

To: To answer your question regarding “growing out of the gummy smile, typical no, in fact usually the gummy smile will become worse with additional growing time. A gummy smile can be the result of an upper lip musculature that literally raises the lip up excessively when smiling. A gummy smile can also due to and excessive vertical length of the bone structure (covered by the gum tissue) surrounding the teeth. Ideally the upper lip will just barely cover the gum line of the upper front teeth when smiling. An excessive display of gum tissue when smiling can be a result of either of the 2 afore mentioned situations or a combination of both of them. The bone surrounding the upper teeth, which is covered by the gum tissue, continues to grow vertically in most people until they reach the late teenage years. So continued normal growth throughout the teenage years will result in an increasing amount of gum tissue display. Surgery can be one answer to resolving a gummy smile. However there are other ways that may be very effective in handling the gummy smile problem. There are some things that can be done interceptively to help ameliorate this condition. If your daughter has a dental deep overbite the upper front teeth can be moved to lessen the amount of gum tissue displayed in smiling while resolving the overbite condition. Additionally there are some things that can be done through conventional orthodontic treatment to reposition the entire upper dental arch if that is necessary as well. It is best to see a university trained orthodontic specialist and he/she, after a thorough diagnostic evaluation, can develop the best way to resolve your daughter’s condition. There are things that can be done now to help your daughter, t is best to seek advice at this time in the possibility that interception may significantly help prevent an extremely difficult problem to resolve.

No help without: Seeing your doctor, you need to be evaluated right, after physical exam, blood tests and x-rays would tell how your bone age is and whether you need some hormonal treatment to achieve puberty and adolescence, your doctor would refer you to a specialist, mainly an endocrinologist. Don't delay any further, goodluck,

When will my baby's hair start to grow?

When will my baby's hair start to grow?

It differs....: Every baby is different. Some will be born with a full head of hair and keep it, some will lose it and regrow it early and some won't grow significant length of hair until 2 years old. It just really depends on the individual baby...

Why do people shave a baby's hair off when it doesn't make the grow any faster?

Why do people shave a baby's hair off when it doesn't make the grow any faster?

Personal choice: Some babies hair falls of in patches and some parents rather it look even. Some parents have the belief it will come in better if it is all shaven. In the end it does not hurt the baby and it will certainly grow back.

My baby lost most of his hair at 6 mo. Why? When will it grow back?

Alopecia universalis: Complete alopeecia is usually autoimmune. It can be dealt with cosmetically in the short term, but I would see a dermatologist or immunologist. It often goes away, but in many cases not.

Moles: It really depends on what type of "mole" it is. Some grow with the size of the baby relatively and others like hemangioma grow in size until roughly two years of age and then start to get smaller later on. Please discuss with your pediatrician.

Will baby oil help eyebrow grow?

Will baby oil help eyebrow grow?

No: Baby oil or castor oil have been used for this but it will not hurt either. You have to find the cause of eyebrow loss. If it was shaved off it will grow by itself. If you lost eyebrows without reason you must see your family doctor for workup for treatable causes.
