I think I have a stomach virus and I am scheduled for a blood test tomorrow morning (fasting lipid panel, CMP w/EGFR, CPK, PSA). Should I postpone?

My doctor said my lipid panel blood test results looked good. Is that an indication that I am not eating to much saturated fat?

My doctor said my lipid panel blood test results looked good. Is that an indication that I am not eating to much saturated fat?

Not necessarily but: Saturated fats can affect cholesterol levels, but about half of those who die from cardiovascular disease have "normal" lipid levels. Saturated fats may cause arterial damage independent of effects on lipid levels, but the degree to which saturated fats increase risk of heart disease is controversial. Vegetables are your: Friends. And not smothered in butter and salt. Lean meats no larger than a deck of cards or your palm. Fresh fruit is also good. Minimize yellow cheeses in favor of white cheeses . Eggs are ok but egg whites are better. This is a lifestyle so don't go to extremes by totally eliminating foods but rather each meal should be balanced and is a new opportunity to make better choices. ...Read more

My son had a blood test that came back with an abnormal lipid count what does that mean? He is 20 yrs old .

Abnormal lipid blood: It would appear that the amount of lipids (cholesterol and related fats) are too high in his blood. After some years he will be more likely than other people to develop blockages in his heart and other arteries, which can give rise to heart attacks and strokes. His doctor will be able to advise him, but in most such young individuals, changes in diet, and sometimes medications will be needed. ...Read more

M 50. Lipid, RFT, LFT, blood culture, urine, ultra sou. What other tests should I get for a yearly health check up? Need to see if health is ok. Thnx.

Depends: There is little evidence for the yearly "general medical exam" (GME). Testing should be age and individual appropriate based on evidence based medicine. The duration between evaluations depends on what problems (if any) are present (co-morbidities) and medications. One commentary: http://www.emedicinehealth.com/checkup/article_em.htm ...Read more
