How Much Azithromycin To Treat Gonorrhea
Azithromycin (zithromax, azithrocin, zmax, azin) is an azalide, a subclass of macrolide antibiotics. Azithromycin is one of the world's best-selling antibiotics.[not in citation given (see discussion.)] it is derived from erythromycin, with a methyl-substituted nitrogen atom incorporated into the lactone ring, thus making ...Read more
I got treated for gonorrhea with the shot, a week later I still had a lot of discharge so they gave me azithromycin, 2-3 days later it burns after pro
Go back: The current recommended standards for treatment would include two agents to start with (a cephalosporin and azithro or another drug to treat non-gonococcal urethritis). Since antibacterial resistance has become a major issue you would be best to be seen by a doctor expert in the area of STDs. Probably need culture and sensitivity.
PLEASE clear up my confusion. If I do not have gonorrhea, then which bacteria will Azithromycin treat for my suspected PID?
Chlamydia: Zithromax is used to treat Chlamydia. Best wishes!
Had discharge, doc tests for Gonorrhea & chlamydia. Both negative. Treated for both anyway. Dr said urethritis. Will azithromycin & cefTRIAXone stop it?
It may: This is standard one stop therapy for STD's whether testing is positive or may be falsely negative. There are other possibilities that may become apparent over time but this hits the ones that are treatable & easily passed to others.
Could a single dose of 1g azithromycin and 500mg ciprofloxacin be enough to treat chlamydia and gonorrhea infection?
No: Current cdc recommendations for gonorrhea and chlmydia are a single dose of Ceftriaxone 250 mg (shot) and a single dose of Azithromycin 1g (by mouth). Instead of Azithromycin you could do Doxycycline 100 mg by mouth twice a day for 7 days. Treatment for pelvic inflammatory disease (more severe infection in females) cannot be done in a single dose.
Treated 4 oral chlamydia/gonorrhea. Took azithromycin for 6 days. Other symptoms have gone away except for a persistent mild to moderate sore throat.
STD: I would err on the side of caution and treat with a further course of doxycycline 100mg twice daily for 10 days. The chlamydia may not be gone.
How long after 1 g of zithromax and a shot of rocephin (ceftriaxone) should I wait before get retested for gonorrhea and chlyamedia? (My doctor didn't know which it was and chose to treat for both).
6-8 weeks: He did not choose to treat for both. It is the required treatment protocol for both GC + CT positive. Your partner should be similarly treated.
Few days: It will kill the bug in a few days.
I've been diagnosed with gonorrhea and was given 4 500mg pills of azithromycin. I lost the instructions for taking it. Do I take it all at once? Or 2 the first day and then one each day after?
Gonorrhea: Uncomplicated gonorrhea can be treated with a single dose of one gram of azithromycin. If you were given two grams, then perhaps you had a more complicated condition. It would not hurt to take one gram a day for two days. Make sure you are checked for other stds, particularly syphilis and hiv, because people with one std often have more than one.See 1 more doctor answer
Ceftriaxone, others: Duplicate question, same answer: Azithromycin by itself is not used for gonorrhea treatment unless other first-line treatments cannot be given, such as drug allergy. When used for gonorrhea, a 2 gram dose of AZM is needed (vs. 1 gram for chlamydia). Has persistent gonorrhea been professionally diagnosed? If so, I would recommend ceftriaxone plus doxycycline. Discuss with your doctor or clinic
Ceftriaxone, others: Azithromycin alone is not recommended for gonorrhea treatment unless there is a reason that other first-line treatments cannot be given, such as drug allergy. When used for gonorrhea, a 2 gram dose of AZM is needed (compared with 1.0 g for chlamydia). Has persistent gonorrhea been professionally diagnosed? If so, I would recommend ceftriaxone plus doxycycline. Discuss with your doctor or clinic
I'm pretty sure I have gonorrhea. Can I take fish azithromycin and save myself the embarrassmemt at the Dr?
No: No, medications for animals are not at the same dosages as for humans. You will likely under treat yourself and won't clear the infection. Please go see your doctor for an evaluation. Your doctor has treated sexually transmitted infections (STIs) hundreds of times. As doctors we don't care that you have the infection we just want to treat it before something bad (tubal damage) happens.
Yellow discharge and a little itching after 2 days of gonorrhea medication I got a shot and 2 azithromycin pills please help?
Probably OK: It can take a week for gonorrhea symptoms to clear, especially if you also have chlamydia, present in almost half of people with gonorrhea. Your treatment (ceftriaxone and azithromycin) will cure both. But if these symptoms started only after treatment, it could be yeast triggered by the antibiotics. Return to the doctor or clinic if symptoms get worse, or if still there a week after treatment.
I took 1g of azithromycin for 3 days, and on the 3rd day I took it plus 400cefixime for chlamydia and gonorrhea. How long will drippings will be gone?
Within days: Your symptoms should be gone within a few days. If they persist check with your doctor. Remember that your sexual contacts need to be treated at the same time to eradicate the infection.
Hi, Is Ciprofloxacin good vs Gonorrhea and how long should I take it? I was told to take Azithromycin as well for Chlamydia. Is it it ok to combine?
Yes you need to take: Both antibiotics for these diseases. However in recent population studies in the USA and throughout the world, fluoroquinolone-resistant strains of Neisseria gonorrhaea have become widespread, especially in more endemic areas with the highest prevalence. This means that it may be safer for you to seek a single dose Ceftriaxone in the arm or buttock for best available treatment method.See 1 more doctor answer
Is 1g of azithromycin and 400 mg of cefixime good against gonorrhea? Tried doxy+cipro already and it didn't work. I'm in Thailand, allergic penicilin
Should be OK: Gonorrhea bacteria in SE Asia, including Thailand, often are resistant to both ciprofloxacin and doxycycline, so no surprise they didn't work. Cefixime and azithromycin should be OK, but the best option would have been a shot of ceftriaxone 250 mg instead of cefixime. You should be retested in a couple of week to be sure it's gone; if not, see an STD expert and discuss ceftriaxone. Good luck.
